hi everyone! My name is ashley and i am 28 years old. I've read some posts on here and feel like you ladies are the perfect place to come with my concern, so here it goes...

About 6 months ago I felt a lump in my breast, i had a breast ultrasound done 6 months prior to that which showed nothing so I was really concerned when i found this new mass. Well I knew i had to go to get this thing checked out so i went and my doctor got me an ultrasound right away - they scanned my entire breast and looked at my lump and concluded that it was a 5mm complicated or complex cyst? The radiologist said to come back in 6 months for rescan. My doctors office called the next day to confirm she agreed for 6 months after looking at the report and that was that. Welp 5 (almost) 6 months later I feel another lump right next to the area where my complicated cyst is! I felt it last night and instantly felt panic. Another lump?

I guess my concern is that they missed a cancerous lump while doing the ultrasound - when i say that it is MAYBE 2cm away from the original lump I'm serious it's that close. It feels kind of squishy and kind of firm. Some background about my family history is my great grandmother and half aunt had BC diagnosis after 50 but that's all I know of. I have a months wait to my next scan, so I'm trying by to reasonable here, would they have missed something right next to my other cyst? Is that possible? Thank you everyone in advance, I'm young and scared as i know BC has no age limit.

Ps: any information on complex cysts my doctors and radiologist didn't really go into detail and i kind of blanked while i was there. I know i should of asked better questions but this was my first time doing this and i was alone and nervous so i think that made me forget to ask.

Since you were put on a schedule for a 6 month follow-up, I'm guessing that what you have is a complicated cyst. This is similar to a simple cyst except that it's not quite evenly round or oval, or has a slightly irregular wall, or perhaps there is a bit of solid debris inside.

For those of us who develop cysts, it's pretty common to develop more than one. I've had more cysts than I can remember, some simple, some complicated. Some were small, some large. I had a very large cyst aspirated one time and the doctor found another cyst right behind it. All were harmless and benign, as cysts usually are.

From your description of the second lump, it sounds like it's another cyst. "Kind of squishy" (even with the added "and kind of firm") would not be a common description for a cancerous lump. Cysts can develop very quickly so it probably wasn't there 6 months ago. Since you already have one cyst, that's a whole lot more likely than this being a cancerous lump that was missed in your ultrasound 6 months ago.

And yes, it's true that breast cancer has no age limit, but it's also true that likelihood of breast cancer is someone who is 28 is low, whereas the likelihood of another cyst is high.

Try not to worry. The odds of this being anything serious is very low.

Beesie! i can't believe you replied! I've read a lot of posts looking for information on my cyst when i was first scanned and i ALWAYS admired your thoughtful and knowledgeable responses on here. I also always said to myself - this person should work in medical! If you don't, you would be great. I'm sure you can tell by my post, but I've really worked myself up over this cyst and my breast health. I just feel scared all the time and don't know how to manage my fears. My mom lives far away so i don't really have that motherly comfort i guess or anyone to talk to about it (that's why i made this post) Every month I do my checks, and every month i think i feel something new. I did the proper thing by going to the doctors, not once BUT TWICE so I know i should be proud of myself but I'm just scared, ya know? I don't know much about scans and just thought maybe it was possible they missed something or it was too small and now i feel it. I appreciate your response so much, I hope people tell you often how appreciated your knowledge is

I'm glad I could help and I really appreciate your comments. And believe me, I know the feeling of panic that comes with finding a new lump!

Breast cancer tends to be slow growing, whereas cysts can pop up out of nowhere. If you do regular monthly breast exams and this new lump is suddenly very noticeable and seemed to pop up out of nowhere, then it is most likely a cyst. That's what I would always remind myself and hang on to whenever I would find something new.

Good luck! Hopefully this is just another cyst.
