There was a community choir in a rural area with no virus cases in the entire county. They had a practice in a church and tried to stay apart. No one had any symptoms and they used hand sanitizer as they walked in. 60 people attended. 45 have tested positive for the virus and 2 have died. They are interviewing everyone trying to see if the 15 people who aren't sick were all together. The result will be very interesting.

The trouble with thinking one is safe because there aren't any reported cases is that a lack of reports does not mean a lack of virus. No state in the Union has enough tests and testing supplies. What we are living with is false negatives. There is only one case confirmed in my county. Sounds good, right? Well only 37 people have been tested and most of those are employees of the hospital where the original patient is being treated. There are 41,000 people in my county. I assume that anyone I meet is infected.

The ridiculous Gov Abbott of Texas has announced that - yes - schools will be closed until May 4th. But guess what? He has over-ruled county & city rules and said churches are OK to re-open. I guess God will protect them. But who protects us when they come streaming out of their churches?

Good grief, Texas makes our idiot governor in Missouri almost look reasonable. Nah, they're both dumb shits who should be held responsible for deaths that occur due to their inaction. As should the Grand FUBAR in the White House.

As Mississippi says, "Hey, hold my beer."

    https://www.mississippifreepress.com/mississippi-governor-overrides-mayors-covid-19.html

"I just think this is complete foolishness and foolery, and it's embarrassing," King said today. "I am embarrassed not just as a mayor, but as a citizen of Mississippi. We are the laughingstock of the country because our governor has enacted an order that not only doesn't protect the safety and welfare of the people, but puts Mississippians in harm's way." - Moss Point, MS Mayor Mario King

Unbelievable! How can the governor be such an idiot? This is a recipe for disaster. I hope some individuals can avoid all this contact, although if your job demands you return to work and you really need that money it makes it very difficult to stay away.

The dipstick pastor who got himself arrested here in Florida has closed his church. Gee, not enough people well enough to lay hands and pray over the sick ones

All these people are afflicted with the Trump virus. No, they truly do not care about anything other than their re-election. Unfortunately, their supporters actually believe they are looking out for them. Even when their loved ones die from the poor handling of covid19, they will buy into the bs that it was the fault of the dems. DT says he inherited a broken system.....he disbanded the epidemiology section of the CDC put in place by Obama. Then they want to use the impeachment hearings as the great distraction. I hate to say it, but I fear we are becoming a dumber and dumber society. All these governors need to be arrested like the “preacher”. What arrogance to deliberately put others at risk. My niece is a contractor with the CDC and is appalled by the handling of this and is terrified about how this is going to play out in this country

I keep telling my husband that I am seriously going to look at moving to another country if Trump wins again. He and his big business, small government buddies will dismantle all good working social safety net programs and anything else that helps the poor and middle class. And that's just what they'll do the first few months of a 2nd term.

DogMom, my extended family are in Sweden and a cousin has been telling me for 20yrs that I need to move there b/c my world view is more Swede than American. She is right and my hesitancy has always been those winters w limited daylight. If I was 20 yrs younger I would seriously consider it now, despite the weather issues. My sister works for Volvo and they have closed all business in Sweden b/c the country will take care of their people during this crisis. The American side of the business has been scaled down significantly but are trying to keep people employed by working from home b/c they will not be taken care of by our government. Sister says many American employees are outraged that Volvo is expecting them to keep working but don’t get that Volvo knows our country will not take care of them.

Our county health department has a Facebook page they update every day and they give good information. The county population is about 65,000. There are 13 positive cases as of today. The health dept says, “Do not let the small number of positives give you a false sense of security. Only the more severe cases are getting tested. Others who have the virus with less severe symptoms are simply self quarantining at home.” They also said assume everyone has the virus and take all necessary precautions. And, of course, stay at home.

I think this is probably what’s going on across the U.S.

    Yogatyme, that's great.

A woman came to our door once and DH told her we were atheists. She responded, well the Bible says. . .but I suppose you don't accept that. Well, Jesus . . but I guess that doesn't matter to you either. Talked herself out of it and left.

DD says they train new witnesses in her neighborhood. She hears them tell the trainee that they are Asian because of all the shoes outside on the porch.

Tennessee's governor is equally idiotic. He refuses to issue the needed closures and bans because he doesn't want to do the "big government" thing and thinks Tennesseans can make up their own minds about how to social distance. Well, I've seen plenty of people here congregating and getting too close to each other in stores, so clearly that isn't true. He also made a long list of exceptions to the non-essential businesses that have to close, including churches. What a dumbfuck.

Arkansas is not under a stay at home order but beauty and barber shops are closed as are bars, restaurants (except for takeout/delivery), schools are closed, gatherings of more than 10 people are asked to disburse by police who have the ability to issue citations. Dental and Doctor offices are voluntarily closed except for necessary treatments. Hospitals are not doing any elective procedures. State parks are restricted to day trips only and our most popular national park has been closed by request of the governor to discourage out of state visitors. All of this and more is being done without a mandatory stay at home order. In my area everyone is following safe distance and staying home as much as possible. Lowes and Home Depot and other stores are open, but the local management is taking this seriously and sanitizing every day, shortening store hours to do so. There was some talk by upset citizens about closing the bridges between Arkansas and surrounding states, but the Governor said that would create more problems. We wish surrounding states would self regulate, but it appears they don't really take this seriously.

ananda, it’s good that people in your area are voluntarily following recommendations, but do you think everyone in Arkansas is doing the same? It is doubtful and ambitious at best. It’s still early in your part of the country and your numbers could be significantly lower if your Governor would order stay at home now. This virus is nothing to play around with. I saw an interview with Chris Cuomo last night. He has had the virus for 3 days and is running fevers high enough to cause hallucinations, has lost 13# in 3 days and he described the headache as unbearable. I hope you will stay home and sincerely hope your governor orders shelter in place NOW.

We're shut down until May 4. Fine with me. Grocery stores, pharmacy places (one of which is in a store which allows minor shopping) and libraries are closed. Restaurants are take out only and only for limited hours. The weather isn't conducive for much. Sun this morning and rain this afternoon.

Yogatime, It appears that people are cooperating all over the state and calling out those who don't. Our largest group of non-compliers are from out of state. Arkansas has 23.5 cases / 100,000. Missouri has 34.5 cases / 100,000. Tennessee has 43.8 cases / 100,000. Louisiana has 220.8 cases / 100,000. Each of these states is shut down but have poor compliance. We are closing parks and major attractions to keep the people from surrounding states from coming here. We have such a high rate of compliance because our governor gives us accurate information every day and the heads of departments explain things in ways that everyone can understand. For example, here are two links available to Arkansans. This shows the statistics of the virus cases, deaths and recoveries. It's updated several times a day. You will have to copy and paste this address to see the map. One can click on a county and see the stats for that county. https://adem.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/f533ac8a8b6040e5896b05b47b17a647

If one is worried that they may be infected, they can get a free online screening and receive a recommendation to either isolate in place or go to a medical facility. Accurate, real-time information helps with compliance and gives people the feeling they are being cared for. https://uamshealth.com/healthnow/?fbclid=IwAR3G5iE...

I live in St. Louis, Missouri. Our numbnut governor finally bowed to pressure and ordered a hunker-at-home order, but it's not effective until Monday. Idiot. The county (St. Louis is an independent city surrounded on three sides by about a bajillion municipalities comprising St. Louis County) has ordered all their parks closed off effective earlier this evening. We drove through one yesterday (staying in our car the entire time), but noticed all the parking areas were packed with empty cars - so the trails and frisbee golf areas and other activity spots were really crowded. I guess I wasn't the only one who noticed since now they're closed. The city has closed off access to a few of our larger, heavily used parks, and closed portions of a few others. We drove through one that is known for its lovely gardens and blooming trees, and the car traffic wasn't that heavy, but that park is mostly used by local residents for walking, and I think they were all there yesterday. I wonder if it will lead to further restrictions and perhaps people from certain streets or neighborhoods being assigned days when they can go to designated parks for fresh air.

ananda, listening to the epidemiologists, I fear your state is seeing this through rose colored glasses. I hope I am wrong. I hope everyone in this country is listening to the stories from the medical professionals on the front lines trying to treat people with this terrible virus. Drs and nurses in NYC are so emotional about what they are seeing. To not do everything we possibly can is not just stupid, it is selfishly putting others at risk. Stay safe.

My county went on stay at home before our useless gov locked down the state. The county parks are still open. I have the misfortune of living next to a linear trail. Ppl are out all hours of day and night. Walking, biking, skating. In groups. But god will protect them??
