Here in NC, we get updates of confirmed cases and deaths by county. No place Tom find out how many have been tested and whether it was negative or positive. At least not that I can find. Our Governor is a Dem but most local/county governments lean conservative

Just saw Frank Graham shilling for the lord on CNN asking people to call his prayer line. Wonder if they ask for a donation after they pray with you

This guy gives Alec Baldwin a run for his money as a Trump impersonator:
-
DogMom, I am so grateful for Roy Cooper. I am surprised he hasn’t put us on shelter in place, but I expect it’s coming. Richard Burr on the other hand should be warming Martha Stewart’s cell for insider trading. I think he and Trump have some related DNA.
-
wanderweg- love it!
Yogatyme- agree with you about Burr. What a despicable human. Just like Trump. I'm surrounded by a couple of counties that have placed restrictions but not my county so far. Also agree that statewide will probably come. Hope you are safe

After reading this on "the Hill" website, my understanding that language about women contributes to their second class citizenship. Describing her attire as feminine and modest was so 1950's that I'm still steaming. Washington Post, Robin Givhan likens her to the school nurse, who, by the way, is the person in the school system most likely to be downsized.
Dr. Deborah Birx stands out on the podium of the White House press conference room. She's one of two women on the White House coronavirus task force. Next to the president and vice president as well as other top public health officials including Dr. Anthony Fauci in suits, her signature shirt dresses and scarves have been described as "classically feminine" and "modest but sophisticated" by Washington Post fashion critic Robin Givhan.

Is Thomas Massie in training with Mitch McConnell as Kentucky’s most ignorant, arrogant and hateful representative? He’s willing to put people at risk for a vote on the stimulus bill. What a complete ass!! Rand Paul is in good company. Thankfully, it appears Kentucky appears to have a human governor.
-
I am thankful for Roy Cooper, as well. I keep thinking how awful things would be if McCrory were still governor.
-
absolutely, love pugs!
-
well, dogmom & lovepugs, Gov Cooper just announced shelter in place beginning 3/30.
-
I missed it - did he say why it won't begin until 3/30? It seems like since essential businesses will still operate, it should be effective immediately.
-
Wanted to give people chance to prepare. In effect until April 29. Actually, people should already be prepared shouldn’t they

I guess I will be going into work on Monday. I am considered an non essential worker (social worker) in an essential industry (long term care facility). Don't know if I will be asked to stay home after that. For us it depends on what the Center for Medicare/Medicaid decides about suspending resident assessments. I can do some work from home but not 40 hours a week worth if they suspend assessments.
Good for Cooper though. It needed to be done. I hope it doesn't impact you two too much, Yogatyme and lovepugs.
-
DogMom, I am a retired clinical social worker and all my former colleagues are telling me about the challenges of telemedicine. DH and I have hunkered down at our mountain house and hoping to keep covid far, far away! I hope things work out safely for you with work. Take good care
-
Yogatyme- just saw this.
"Residents of the North Carolina mountains fear people are bringing COVID-19 to their remote towns and could strain their already limited health care resources." https://www.wfae.org/post/residents-nc-mountains-f.../0

Wow, DogMom, thanks for sharing that. I can certainly understand the worry. We are in Watauga County and many of the half yearers come from GA & FL, both full of this virus. We only have a few neighbors and most are year rounders. We are being very cautious and not leaving home except for food. We try to buy a lot at once to reduce trips to the store. I will sure be glad when this thing runs its course.....unfortunately, it doesn’t look like that will be any time soon. Again, thanks! Be safe.
-
Something I found just now:
-
I wonder if all the "socialism is evil" folks will be sending their stimulus money back....this is a socialist action. I am not a socialist, but at least understand the principles. What really gets me is in NC we have school vouchers and these anti national health plan folks are only too happy to take tax payers money for their kids private education, including parochial education, which, as an atheist, REALLY pisses me off.
-
I'm with you Yogatyme. It's only socialism when it doesn't help them personally
-
DogMom, exactly!
-
Rugged individualism is not going to get us through this crisis. Americans better wake up.
-
I am optimistic and confident in all that I do. I affirm only the best for myself and others. I am the creator of my life and my world. I meet daily challenges gracefully and with complete confidence. I fill my mind with positive, nurturing, and healing thoughts. -Alice Potter
I believe that if you think about disaster, you will get it. Brood about death and you will hasten your demise. Think positively and masterfully with confidence and faith, and life becomes more secure, more fraught with action, richer in achievement and experience. This is the sure way to win victories over inner defeat. It is the way a humble person meets life or death. -Eddie Rickenbacker

The above is truly VERY difficult these days, but it was difficult before this virus issue just trying to stay above the bad moods and sometimes harsh reality of a leader that wasn't up to the task. So it is my way to give myself a bit of a pep talk. People depend on me so I need to keep going -- no matter what the circumstances.
The leader by the way is still doing almost nothing to make it any easier or better.
-
Hobby Lobby shows its ugly stripes yet again. So glad I boycott that den of theives.
-
I have never stepped foot in their stores and never will. It’s exactly this kind of “Christian” attitude that has kept me out. Such a Christian way to give people this news. Bet those folks wish we had national health plan about right now.
-
I went to the store with my cousins, one time. Had never been in one of the stores. I am far from a snob, but a good deal of their merchandise looked rather fake and or cheap to me. Huge store with aisles and aisles of what seemed mainly worthless items. Not sure why my cousins liked it. I never went back. Later I heard the stories about the 'wonderful' Christians who owned the store. I felt even better about my 'first' feelings. Still not interested in a cheap tawdry store with owners who I would describe in almost the same terms.

Humility does not mean false modesty. Humility does not mean taking a back seat. When you take a back seat consciously and deliberately in order to show others how humble you are, you are not being humble at all. False humility is what slaves show to their masters. Slaves know that if they do not obey their masters blindly, if they do not show this kind of outer humility, the master will punish them. True humility is something totally different; it is the feeling of oneness. Humility means giving joy to others. Here on earth we want to get joy. But how do we get joy? Real joy we get from self-giving, not by possessing or by showing our own supremacy. When we allow others to get joy, then we feel that our joy is more complete, more perfect, more divine. By making others feel that they are either equally important or more important, we show our
true humility.Sri Chinmoy

<deleted> unhinged rant about religious zealots
I spent about 20 minutes unloading on morons, but decided to delete it because who needs more negativity at this point? It didn't make me feel better and it's not like I'd be telling this group anything you didn't know already.
Hope everyone is staying safe and sane. I'm having more luck with the former than the latter. We'll get through it, but I gotta say, spending my numbered days on lockdown was not on my Stage IV Bucket List bingo card.
Strength and peace to all.

I was glad to hear Andrew Cuomo tell it straight to the Orthodox Jews today. And yesterday Al Sharpton said that believing God was going to protect you in church services is like believing that if you jump off a building, God’s going to send down an angel to break your fall.
-
Lets hear it for getting the truth. I can handle almost anything if it is the truth. I detest liars ( not talking about un-intentional issues since we often have to sift thru a lot of mis-informartion ) but those who are pathological like Trump, or who simply pass things along. I have been guilty of this one thinking people should know but not having a lot of time to check it out.
