Abnormal urinalysis following treatment

Options

Hi all,

I had urinalysis as part of yearly physical today and I had high white blood cell count in my urine, moderately high red blood cell count as well as significant protein in the urine. I remembered that i had frank blood in my urine on the first chemo cycle which subsided spontaneously. Blood pressure and every other blood work is ok, please has anyone experienced a similar thing? I'm on Herceptin, Perjerta and tamoxifen at the moment.

Thank you.

MsPrecious - is it maybe a UTI that your body is trying to fight? Get them to culture the urine.

MinusTwo, thank you for the response. A sample was taken for culture. It's usually 72hours for the culture. Fingers crossed....i have never had a UTI. I'll keep you posted.

Hello , I have now had two UTI, never had before and then one night. blood in my urine.

I'm on Kadclya (combo drug of Herceptin and Chemo) and Letrozole and don't know if I'm reacting to the Kadclya as I have now had 9 treatments of 14 and each time the side effects seem to lengthen (fatigue, mostly)

Countca04, I'm sorry to hear about the UTI. I did urine culture 2X and it was negative. I'm still worried about the protein and blood cells in the urine. I am trying to increase my water intake and have a repeat urinalysis in about a month. I'm just hoping that all these drugs are not messing up with the kidneys.

I am not and have not done chemo so not sure how valuable or relevant this is, but i posted last year in August about the increased urination I was having. My oncologist asked for a urine sample and I also had white cells, ketones and trace blood in the urine (I am not low carbing). She immediately said it looked like a small start of a UTI. My gyn-practitioner had the urine cultured. No bacteria. No uti. She (gyn-nurse) said it was no doubt the depletion of my estrogen that was causing the frequent peeing; the explanation for the stuff in the urinalysis was that it was probably not a "clean stream." That the vagina can have some of these things. I doubt it but they put me on Imvexxy (like vagifem) and within a month, the peeing stopped. No one ever seemed interested in anything else about the urine.

Beesie (I think) posted to my post with a great link on how many UTIs are actually missed with the way the current cultures are made....

so the odds are it could be one or both.

    Good luck.

wallycat, thank you for the response. The urine was not a clean stream. I agree with you, it is a possibility. I'm optimistic about the situation, this phase will also pass. Thanks so much
