Waiting for a surgery date -- possible Coronavirus delay
I'm getting anxious waiting for a surgery date. I need a double lumpectomy in one breast (1 cancer/1 likely benign) along with reduction/lift on both breasts.
On Monday, the nurse told me that they are evaluating all upcoming office appointments, tests, procedures and surgeries and will be prioritizing what will be cancelled, postponed and re-scheduled before they can schedule me. I asked if I could reasonable expect to hear something this week; her reply was that she had no clue. She did emphasize that cancer surgery was considered a priority AT THIS TIME.
I'm getting a bit anxious. Is anyone else experiencing the same uncertainty? Is anyone being told that their surgery can be considered elective or that it's too risky to schedule now? Is a delay really going to affect my outcome (slow-growing, hormone positive)?

CallMeTenacious,
Welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're so sorry for the reasons that bring you here, but we're really glad you've found us and are reaching out for advice and support -- we're all here for you.
We are definitely in uncertain times, but we hope you'll get some clarity soon. It can be unnerving to think that your treatment might be put off longer than you'd hoped, but according to the main Breastcancer.org site's special report on Coronavirus, what we know now is that only electable surgeries are being pushed back and cancer surgeries are NOT considered electable. Talk to your doctor to discuss how and when your treatment can begin.
There's also others discussing how the coronavirus has affected their treatment here, if you'd like to introduce yourself and your story.
We're sending our best thoughts to you! Please keep us posted!

A family member of mine has a few doctor/surgeon friends who said something like that. My wife is suppose to have a lumpectomy at Dana Farber in Boston the first week of April. They have told us it is still scheduled as planned and that any cases there that have been postponed where done due to any co-morbidities that certain patients would have with the viral exposure. I am anxious too though - especially since we have to travel. Please let me know if you hear anything further. Best wishes to you.

My excisional biopsy is delayed, (adh only thank God), but biopsies on 3 other areas next thursday, then they'll reassess. Not even sure I want to go in for the biopsies now.

As of today, my surgery is postponed into May. I am very relieved.
