Can we talk poop?
I know it’s not pleasant to discuss, but I have questions about my poop. 😆 After I finally had a poop 3 days after surgery, it was black and sticky. Every poop I’ve had since is still very dark black. I’m taking a MultiGen tablet every day along with 2 Xarelto, a Prevacid, 2 Colace, 3 800 mgs of Ibuprofen, Valium, and Norco. Should I be worried, or is this normal. I honestly cannot find an answer online, which I hate to do anyway.
😎Thanks, y’all!

Interactions between xarelto, motrin and norco can occur. I would talk to your prescribing physician for the xarelto about the use of these other drugs. Better to be safe than sorry.

Believe me, I have! I was under the impression that you never take blood thinners with ibuprofen but he said I will for 1 week only, then another week of just the ibuprofen.
-
Are you taking supplemental iron? Any bismuth (Pepto-Bismol)?
-
There is iron in the multigen I’ve been taking for weeks. Maybe that’s what is causing the dark stools and constipation?
-
Norco is very constipating. What surgery did you have, and how many days ago? Why are you taking large amounts of ibuprofen AND Norco?
-
iron can definitely cause dark stools

I had unilateral mastectomy with diep flap reconstruction of left breast. My surgery was a week ago.

I was told to take Colace because of meds can cause issues and constipation and hard stools. Those can cause hemorrhoids which can be internal even. Those can cause dark stools too. I did take some but if you like raisins they worked well for me and I ate them a lot a the beginning after my surgeries. Best wishes for speedy recovery.

Is it tarry and dark, or just dark?
-
It sounds like you have a perfect storm on constipating medications. My stools were dark until I was off the prescription paid meds. My surgeon had me taking stool softeners before surgery. I would do as others have suggested and call your surgeon's office to doublecheck.

I am taking colace and miralax, but I’ll be adding raisins......good idea! I respond better to food than chemicals. I’ve got a low grade fever as well so I guess a phone call tomorrow is in order. Thank you ladies!

Lajonesin, The Xarelto, ibuprofen and iron will give you the black stools. I don't understand why your doctor would give you such a high dose of ibuprofen with Xarelto. Have you had any blood draws to check your CBC since surgery? You could try adding senokot to your bowel regime or try taking Miralax twice a day. Good luck to you!

This a GREAT thread about all things constipation. It's not particularly active anymore, but the ideas are first rate., And a few jokes thrown in to help us "get going".
