My mother recently diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer

Options

My 72 year old mother was just diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer that is ER/HR positive and HER-2 negative. The cancer has spread to her lungs, liver, kidneys and 5 different bones including a large tumor in her skull.

The cancer was found after a break in her femur that has cancer in it. She had surgery to fix the break and is now in rehab trying to get some strength back. So far it has not gone well as she has barely been out of bed 2 weeks after the surgery. The oncologist she has been dealing with says he's not sure her bone will even heal with cancer in it.

We are super confused and not sure how to approach treatment if she is able to get through the rehab. Any advice or questions I should be asking the oncologist is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

abul0826, I am so very sorry to hear about your Mom. Was she fragile prior to her fracture? Is your Mom alert and able to understand her diagnosis? I think my question would be if I were your Mom: Do you feel I would be able to tolerate a cancer treatment in my deconditioned state? Her oncologist should have a treatment plan he/she should discuss with you and your Mom including side effects. When would this treatment plan start? What do you feel might be my prognosis? I feel that would give you the necessary information on how to approach her treatment. Best wishes.....
