MRI vs. Biopsy

Good afternoon,

I posted on this site a few years ago about a suspicious area. It was so comforting to have such knowledgeable people in one place. I had an MRI and was given the all clear. This morning I went in for a diagnostic mammogram & ultrasound. The radiologist ordered a vacuum assisted biopsy from the same area that was suspicious years ago. I was wondering why not do an MRI instead of a biopsy? I have no report since it was just done today. I am just wondering if I should be pushing for an MRI instead of a biopsy? Hopefully this is not a dumb question. :) Thank you in advance!

I'm confused. The MRI you had was recent, or awhile ago? If a while ago, you could ask for MRI before a biopsy, however a biopsy is the only way to know for certain what's up in this area-- also, if you have MRI now it won't clear you of the scores and recommendations already given from your mammo and us. Good luck to you!

The MRI was 3 or 4 years ago. Ok I get it now. Biopsy is the best way to figure out what is going on in the area. Thank you so much ctmbsikia! Biopsy is Thursday.

Melbourne - good luck with the biopsy. Just so you know - NO questions are dumb questions. Let us know what you find out.

Thank you MinusTwo. The biopsy went well. I actually got in with a breast specialist to do the biopsy who eased my nerves. The radiologist put me at a Birads 4c which scared me but my doctor said she completely disagreed and odds are its not cancer. I feel so much better! The results will be in next week. Thank you!

Request an MRI on both breasts so they can compare it to the original and get a current status on both breasts.
