    Thanks to the creators of this community and this was a big support to me in 2013 when I was dealing with cancer. My question is recent guidelines show that RAD gene has a strong link with breast cancer/ TNBC and future risk of ovarian cancer.
    I want to connect with ladies with this particular mutation.

    Hi! I was diagnosed with Her2+ BC 4 years ago but due to my lack of family history, none of my doctors seemed to think that genetic testing was necessary. However, I’ve recently heard that many oncologists believe EVERYONE should be tested so I requested a consultation and had blood drawn 2 weeks ago. I received a call from the genetic counselor yesterday and she told me I have a mutation in the RAD51c gene, which is associated with an increased risk for ovarian cancer. She recommended that I consider having my ovaries removed and mentioned that it could have also played a role in my BC. I’m meeting with my Ob/Gyn tomorrow to talk about my options for oophorectomy and hysterectomy. I’m curious to see what she has to say and I’m so disappointed that I didn’t insist on genetic testing 4 years ago!

    They did mine 5 years ago, there was a mutation but no one suggested ovary removal. Now I am trying to get in touch with my counsellor again.. waiting for her call back ( whenever it happens )

    Hi BanR I have a VUS (Variance of Unknown Significance) on RAD51D which can be related to breast/ovarian cancer. But a VUS means just that they don't know if it means anything or not. Hopefully they will know more in the future.

    Thanks for replying. Do they keep your ovaries in follow up or closely monitor you for future cancer. Did you get diagnosed with cancer under age 40?
