Help with Path Report

Recently had biopsy of microcalcifications. Surgeon states ok. But after getting a copy of my path report I didn’t expect to see so many different “hyperplasias” and the one that’s bothering me is the Focal epithelial atypia. Then it mentions Pash, I think? Too much to decipher. Literature is divided: says FEA can be excised, some say no. Has anyone suggested a second opinion on pathology? Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    I am not a pathologist so I wont try to explain what's in it, but this article is from a well respected medical publication site that you may already be familiar with. This is only one of the many articles that came up searching "FEA" .

    Thank you, DJMammo. I really appreciate your feedback. I also searched online which seemed conflicting. Can I ask as a Physician, do you have particular references you use when researching? I know not to use or read into everything Dr Google/web searching states ( I am a Nurse so I understand most medical terminology). However, it gets frustrating as a Patient when you want to educate yourself and be proactive, only to find the material you come across is conflicting. I don't know if this is something I just watch and let go for now or ask for a surgical excision? I have read FEA can sometimes be found near ADH, DCIS, even lobular carcinomas.

    This is true across the board for many medical topics. What helps decide which conflicting fact is the one to go with is experience. From all the years spent in any medical specialty, some will sound reasonable and some wont. I like the site I sent you to for most things. It is easier for me to send a link than to explain it all myself.

    There are different approaches. You can do the research and decide for yourself or find a breast surgeon who has been doing this for 30 years or so and ask them to help you decide.

    Thank you for your answers. I do go back to meet with the breast surgeon in one month. I guess I will then ask her opinion about this-when she called with my results, she stated everything looked ok and no further surgery-I was at work when she called with my results and was also nervous hearing them-I couldn't ask her any questions at that time, and I had no idea what any of the report meant. Also, didn't know of the conflictresearch. Hopefully we can discuss this at me appointment.
