My hubby does all the laundry, mostly because he can still handle stairs and I have major problems with them. Poor guy never learned to cook, so he better hope I stay alive a long time. I don't understand not being able to cook. If you can read, you should be able to follow a recipe.

I can follow a recipe. It's hard for me to put 2 foods together to make a meal. And a meal that has to have 3 things ready at the same time is so anxiety provoking I want to cry. I think it's a little harder when you don't eat meat. Growing up we had meat, potatoes and a vegetable or two every night. I could do that, but we don't eat meat.

    Wren-

I can cook, but I'm a lazy vegetarian, so I eat a lot on sandwiches 😂 And my boyfriend will either just go out, or eat rice. I feel your pain.
It's so unhealthy for both of us and I honestly miss "dinner at the table."

I'm working on slowly adding more to the menu around here. Just a side and a salad. Or a protein. I'm working my way up to actual meal plans and really healthy vegan dishes.

I'm hoping if i go slow, I'll also learn how to manage my time better, and clean as i go so I don't end up with a sick full of dishes to do after eating ( which is what happens now.)

Maybe just incremental change can help you with the anxiety of it?

I do about 80% of the cooking because I love to cook. Love it. In our house, if one cooks the other cleans up after dinner. I also handle all the finances, retirement accounts, and do our taxes every year, because I am good at it. My husband does virtually all the grocery shopping and other errands. We both do laundry. He probably does 75% of the house cleaning. Really, our chores are divvied out based on skills and interests rather than gender.

It is so refreshing to hear about equality based on talents rather than gender. Congrats to all couples who team up.

Just as in religion, women are conditioned from a very young age to do what is often referred to as menial tasks. That which is lesser. Too many women accept those roles without ever questioning them, just like believing in a religion handed down to them from a previous generation without ever questioning the whys behind the beliefs.

One reason I married my husband was I knew he would do domestic chores. We split a lot of them. The only thing I do that he does not is clean the litter box, and that's because I have a certain way I do it and don't want him interfering with my method. He does his laundry but I would never have him do mine because I have my own way for that, too. We play to our own strengths. We also try to keep things as simple as possible and make things as easy on each other as possible.

For a long time, because of conditioned beliefs, I saw our roles as husband and wife. These days I phase our relationship as partners. We are equals.

Is it any wonder that supporting a women for the highest high political office in the US is impossible. Women are supposed to support men, be ladylike (i.e. not say anything unkind, not speak over a man, not give orders to men, not expect men to do their fair share, not expect equal pay, etc. etc.). Hmmm, would the presidential salary of a woman be the same as for the man. I found that it will take 39years—or until 2059—for women to finally reach pay parity.

After decades of my lifetime, I'm so tired of this repeating conversation. One minute I'm ready to just go numb and the next I'm back in the struggle.

Bloomberg supported a lot of Dems during the last elections to Congress. Of the 21 people he donated to who were elected all but 6 were women. Get more women in the House and the Senate, pay parity will be taken care of. The two term mayor of Washington DC has endorsed Bloomberg. D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser is a woman and black. She said, "I think what Mike has said is that he's used crude language. And I'm pretty sure that all of us can imagine Wall Street 30 years ago, male-dominated. And I think we would all be very naive if we thought a lot of crude remarks didn't happen."...The mayor said she was more disturbed by a Politico report that six women of color left Warren's campaign staff in Nevada because they felt ignored and treated like tokens. Warren apologized after the report was published, saying she believed the women. Anyone expecting purity is naïve.

If a priest's title is "Father", why do they get so nervous when you call them Daddy?

Urgh, I may have put my giant foot into it. I follow my son's church on FB. Yesterday they posted a picture of some women cleaning the kitchen in their multi-use building, with a "Thank you to the women" note. Even though I'm not a member, I mentioned that I was disappointed that an otherwise progressive church divides tasks by gender. I got two quick responses: one from a WOMAN complaining that "You feminists always cross the line" 🙄, and the other from the person who administers their FB page explaining it was their women's group who was cleaning as a thank-you for using the space. I had just responded to comment #1 with "Where exactly is that line?" and had started to respond to the second, thanking them for the information, when the whole post went kablooie and disappeared. So I don't know if their admin is mad at me, or at the June Cleaver who answered me, or if they are just chicken shits. I'm going to dinner there tomorrow, so I guess I'll find out if there are spears thrown when I enter the hall. Shall I wear an armored Mardi Gras outfit?

and they wonder why churches are losing members.

The most likely reason churches are losing members is the apostasy predicted in 2 Thes 2:3....

"Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"

I see this happening a lot, and many are falling away (apostatizing) from the faith (Christianity). Just another sign of the End Times.

FiveThirtyEight is a site run by the pollster, Nate Silver. Here are polls pitting each Democratic candidate against Trump. The polls vary quite a bit by pollster and date.

Our winter has been really mild so far. I have almost finished pruning all of our bushes and will start light fertilizing by the end of the week. We have has almost none stop rain. It sprinkles almost every day and full on rains at least twice a week. All this water leaches nutrients from the soil so fertilizer in very light dustings is required to keep my bushes and flower beds in good health. I'll post some pictures when things start warming up.

Alice to be honest I don’t think they will be too open to criticism lol. Why are you going to dinner at the church? For your son? I have a friend who invites me to her church for holiday dinners even though I don’t practice. The food is great and I always feel guilty but the people are sweet. I’m like Kerry they must be trying to recruit me if they tell you to bring a friend. But they don’t. I’m like you though. Usually I can’t hold it in if I’m thinking it. But mostly with work and dr 😂

I wonder if it counts as "falling away from the faith" when you cage kids?

What about pussy-grabbing? That may count too.

Last, I wonder why politics is less welcome in this thread than religion?

There is 2liberal political threads here that don’t show up in active topics. The conservative thread went dark over a year ago. The mods can explain it to you. PM them, or maybe they’ll step in now.

Normally I think its right to keep politics out.... since cancer does not discriminate, and we're really all here about cancer.

However, here my point here is that this poster feels free to dollop religion into an atheist thread, no problem, even though it is just as disrespectful if not moreso. So I dolloped back, so to speak.

Even MILD political expressions are frowned upon here (probably rightly), but people feel free to contribute 'God talk' in the atheist thread. Such disrespect... stunning.

She’s popped up here before, seems unable to understand this thread and TO KEEP HER MOUTH SHUT. As most evangelicals can’t.

Guess it’s time for the mods to remind her again.

More than that she is saying that atheists and those who don't follow religion are bringing on the end times. After she's raptured, do you think I can have her car?

I'm not at all sure our President is Christian but we understand it doesn't matter. God has often used the lost to fulfill his purposes. By the looks of things, it looks like God knows what He's doing!

No, you can't have my car. Just got it...hottest car on the road. LOL

Sorry - I don't believe in the "end of times" when the guy in the sky's supposed to zap us all. The consideration is what we ourselves are doing to the earth. Climate change is serious.

Ananda - we've had a mild winter too. I did prune my roses according to conventional wisdom on Valentines Day - which is supposed to be the coldest time of winter. Oops - our temps were 78 that day. But I too have pruned all my bushes & cleaned out all my beds. Hesitating about the fertilizing. It's supposed to be 32 degrees Wednesday night.

Spewing scripture on an atheist thread is about the laziest thing a Christian/Evangelical can do, and frankly, it shows lack of intelligence because there won't be any changing of the minds here with her posts. Shouldn't this woman's talents and time be spent feeding the homeless, clothing the poor, giving care to the elderly? After all, that hot vehicle oughta take ya somewhere....

OOps - I posted before reading to the end of the last page. I assumed Ananda posted about her garden as sort of a "la, la, la - my ears are closed" - which is why I did too, in case some of you are thinking I'm crazy. I may be crazy, but like Devine - you'd think the troll would understand we're just laughing AT her.
