Got the call back
so I have been down this road before. The dreaded call back for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound.
I am 51 years old. I have had 2 biopsies and have had a large fibroadenoma removed. I have had multiple calls backs and ultrasounds. I am followed by a breast specialist. I have had two maternal aunts who had breast cancer before the age of 48.
But it has been 3 years since I have had issues or any “bad mammograms”. For some reason this call back has me on edge. Maybe because I know it was a 3D mammogram. Maybe because I know they have many mammograms to compare it with. Maybe because I know it has been less than a year since I saw my breast specialist.
Mammogram didn’t say a mass. That should comfort me. But I feel unsettled. It said asymmetry and need for further testing. I have dense breast. Always have.
I go in Thursday am for the diagnostic Mammo and ultrasound. My mind will wander till then. Weird how I have been down this road before but this time it feels scarier.
Wish me luck.

Good luck, and hang in there! The waiting is the absolute worst.

I do wish you luck. But, if you have dense breasts like me, you need a MRI. That is the only way anything was seen in my breast and by the time they got around to it, it was large and involved two lymph nodes. I am pi$$ed to say the least. Decades of "negative" mammograms. Surgeon said it had probably been there for years unseen by screening mammograms.

Good luck Cocogirl. I am one of the ones who also got repeated call backs. Unfortunately this last one was for real. I hope you have a clean ultrasound and can
move on with no worries. I'll be thinking of you. -
thank you for suggesting MRI. If breast center gives me an an all clear I will ask breast specialist for mri.

thank you all for taking the time to comment and wish me luck. So sorry anybody has to be on this board. I will post what happenson Thursday.

I'm surprised to hear that having dense breasts automatically means you need an MRI. I was told that I needed an ultrasound for my dense breasts. Is that not sufficient? Mammograms missed the last suspicious findings that were found on an ultrasound.
actually, in looking at an article on this website, it seems that adding MRI to the mix in addition to a mammogram and ultrasound, increases the ability to detect cancer, but it also increases the chances of finding a false positive, which leads to unnecessary biopsies. So there is a draw back here.

feeling a bit nervous this am. My diagnostic mammo and ultrasound is tomorrow. But, also feeling like if I am told tomorrow all looks ok that I need to follow up with my breast specialist and ask for the MRI. I did have a mri years ago. I did some research after seeing above posts and do see that with dense breast many Small cancers may be missed on Mammo and US but found on mri.
This waiting game is anxiety provoking. Too much time for the mind to wander
