Anastrozole side Effects

Hi I took Anastrolzole for 10 days and developed a rash on chest, under upper arms. I am 3 weeks post 16 treatments of radiation therapy for left breast early cancer. The breast became swollen, red and inflamed and really sore. I have had to take antihistamine and pain killers for relief. Creams sting like crazy so I can not use them.

Dr advised stopping Anastrolzole for 1 week then start again to see what happens!

Has anyone else has this problem.??

Not looking forward to taking this drug at all especially since this is the first health problem I have ever had.

Hi Missy, congratulations on completing your radiation! Has your doctor ruled out radiation as a cause of your symptoms? The effects of radiation can linger for quite some time, and some experience continued reddening of the skin for several weeks after the last treatment. I have been on anastrozole for 9 months and feel fine. I was very worried about starting it; in fact I was more worried about it than any other part of my treatment, but other than a few days of dizziness when I first started taking it, I have been doing well on it and many others do well on it too. There are some other threads on this topic that you may find to be helpful. Hopefully you can figure out what the cause of your rash is so you can treat it accordingly. Gentle hugs to you, and congratulations again on finishing radiation.

Welcome Missy101, Here is a page about Arimidex and side effects. The article mentions that rashes may be an allergic reaction:

Glad you're talking with your doctor.

Thanks SUPER52 for your support. Everything much worse today seeing Dr tomorrow. I think I have an infection the site is not looking good at all and so so sore. Radiation could well be the cause of this flare up. Will keep you posted

Missy, maybe you have a seroma? I had one and it was very painful, swollen etc. Better now. Let us know how things go.
