I don't know if it's normal to have pain, but I didn't have any pain after my lumpectomy. However I just had one or two sentinel nodes removed.

I had a TON of pain out of the lymph node area after surgery (had three nodes removed). My doctor said it's because there's a lot of nerves in the area and it's hard to not disturb them during surgery. I had to take my narcotics for about 2 weeks after surgery. Saw my surgeon after a week and she said it was par for the course.

When is your follow up appointment? Do you have any other symptoms?? Sorry you are in pain. :-(

Bev: If you will go to MY PROFILE, fill out your diagnosis and treatment and make it public, it will be easier to answer. If you have any lymphnodes removed - even just serial lymph nodes, you are at risk for the rest of your life. See if this site helps.

We welcome you here Bev1963. like MinusTwo said, it would be helpful for us to know more to be able to better understand your pain. let us know more, and perhaps let your doctor know about the pain, and where it's located.

    Warmly,

If you are referring to pain generating from the underarm area, yes, periodic sharp shooting pains are very normal after node removal - not everyone experiences it but lots of us do. The reason is explained by gb2115 in her post. I remember the first time I got one, I just about jumped out of my chair.

After a lumpectomy you may also get sharp shooting pains in the breast as the nerves regenerate.

If you do a search on this site on the words "lymph nodes shooting pains" you'll find hundreds of posts. Here is one example:
