Cancelling and taking a break from chemo

My mom recently had severe side effects from weekly taxol . She took 9 from 12 cycles . The doctor told her she would take a break about 3 weeks with cancelling the last 3 cycles . She would then do the same lab analaysis ( cbc , liver functions , kidney functions ) then return to him after these 3 weeks .

Is 3 weeks a long time as a break from chemo ? Has anyone experienced the same ?

    Ann James:

    I was on taxotere once every three weeks. It's a stronger dose than the weekly taxol but I did have to have my infusions delayed by a week a few times to allow my platelets to recover.
