Finished tamoxifen and then gained weight!
I finished 10 years of tamoxifen treatment in April. Since then, I have gained about 6 pounds. I am not someone who has ever had to worry about weight (I know, I'm fortunate) but I just cannot lose this extra. I am not eating differently and exercise regularly. Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks!

Abbey, that's similar to what I experienced. I've been thin, or even underweight, for most of my life--just the way my body is. I stopped Tamoxifen after 5 years and I've gained 10lbs since.

Thanks for your reply kcat2013! I'm glad to know that I'm not alone in this, although I'm sorry for both of us!

No!! I've gained 20 # in the last 6 months on tamoxifen. I don't want to hear that weight gains happens AFTER also

Oh no! I am supposed to finish tamoxifen at the end of June. I thought I would lose weight once I went off of it. Yikes!

I've been on tamoxifen for 10 years and I'm taking my last 7 this week. I've been struggling to keep the weight off though I'm only slightly above normal BMI I used to be pretty slender. Of course that can also be a function of age declining metabolism. The idea that going off the tamoxifen might make me gain more weight is very discouraging. Is it possible that the weight gain is more due to covid lockdown? I have gained about 5 lb over the last 2 months... I attribute this to the fact that eating is about the most entertaining thing available to do right now :-) if I am honest, I'm a little scared to be putting down my shield against recurrence by ceasing to take tamoxifen. it also means I'll have to work harder to maintain bone density. but my doctor is concerned about a rising risk of stroke so she really wants me to stop.

I found my own tumor just 6 weeks after a supposedly clean mammogram and 2 clinical exams.Know your own body.

Hi Nan. I posted my original question a few months ago before the Covid lockdown, but I thought I'd "weigh" in and let you know that I have subsequently lost the extra weight. Weirdly, I gained the weight, then got my period (which I hadn't had in 5 years) then lost the weight. So, I'm back to my normal weight. The period was at first worrisome, but after a bunch of testing and an ultrasound, my GYN and ONC have decided it was a "last hurrah" and that I'm fine. So, I think the weight gain was a weird hormonal fluctuation which has now resolved. So, don't worry! This will probably not happen to you! Best wishes for good health during this strange time.
