I had my screening mammogram back in Nov 2019. Received a call back in Dec 2019, had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. The radiologist suggested a Breast MRI. I had the MRI in Jan 2020 and the outcome was that I need a biopsy. My primary care doctor referred me to a breast surgeon. I finally had that appointment yesterday. After he looked at

all the test results and the MRI images, he feels that a lumpectomy is the correct course of action. He said the mass looks quite suspicious, based on where it is and my family history (Mom, maternal great aunt and paternal great aunt) he thinks the lumpectomy is what is needed. He said he would be afraid that any type of needle biopsy would not get a good enough sample. I wasn't expecting to hear this news. He suggested that I look at it two different ways: if it is cancer, the lumpectomy would already be over but he would need to go back in and sample nodes and if it isn't cancer, I am back to having a clean mammogram. Any thoughts on this? All of this is just dragging on and the waiting is causing a lot of anxiety. The surgery is scheduled for March 2. Thank you.
