B123 -I’ve had 2 lumps develop over the years. Both on my neck. One was fatty tissue - very squishy. In fact my GP said if it’s hard it’s a problem but not if it’s squishy. The other one was lipoma. Very common. I had both removed.

B123 - I'm not criticizing you. I just know that you are putting yourself through hell. The stress is not worth it. And you can never be sure when you are on google if they are spot on or totally way off base. Call you doc so you can get the reassurance you need to move forward.

Edited to say - we've all done the same and the worrying is horrible.

B123, You said your small lump is in the rib cage area. This is not an area of the neck, armpit, or groin. You basically ruled out lymphoma or a swollen lymph node in what you quoted above and yet it seemed to upset you even more. Focusing on a harmless lipoma that isn't going to harm you, is stressing you out. MinusTwo isn't trying to upset you. She is just trying to save you from the path of stress that you are on with regards to your lipoma. It really is a harmless cluster of fat cells. How is everything else going?

Thanks LORI - As you said, I'm really not trying to be critical or judgemental to B123- we all know how bad the anxiety can be and Dr. Google is often not our friend.

I think there might be a bit of confusion over terms that are being used.
Lipoma - squishy fat thing, like a pet pug, but less charming.

Lymphoma - a cancer of the immune system (?) that can show up in lymph nodes.

Lymphedema - lymph fluid that pools and collects in body parts and tissue due to an interrupted lymphatic system, such as having a node removed for biopsy.

Only ONE of those things is worrying (Lymphoma) and the other two are annoying. As LORI pointed out, there are areas of your body heavily populated by lymph nodes and your ribs is not one of them. So if you are going to have swollen nodes it is not likely to be on your rib cage.

Best to have it checked because the mind can do merciless things to us.

I sincerely appreciate everyone’s advice and help, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. However we all come here to advise and to receive advice. Everyone takes it differently, I am one who completely spirals with anything new due to fear. Something I have worked on for years and also help others with. I was looking for support from my BC community who is also going through their own up hill struggles physically and emotionally, who also understands better then anyone else out there what we deal with, not to be reprimanded and made to feel worse then I already do.
Thank you ladies, I will figure it out from here

B123, Hang in there and don't get discouraged. I clicked on your post because I was going through the same thing...it motivated me to call my doctor. I've had lipoma on my ribs for a couple years and it is now causing me a lot of discomfort and some pain. My surgeon is trying to schedule an ultra sound for me. But, I definitely can spiral too...so don't beat yourself up. A couple years ago I took a black sharpie and circled all of the lipomas on my body before I went to my MO drs appointment.

smc123, I find that the lipomas on my ribs and stomach area are definitely more sensitive than the ones anywhere else on my body, with the exception of the one on my upper leg. I used to worry about how some of them were obvious bumps, like the ones on my arms and the one on my shoulder blade, but after my breast cancer experience, I don't worry as much about appearance anymore, but am just grateful to be enjoying each day. My perception of perfection really did change and I'm a happier person it!!
