My mom currently is taking taxol . She received 9 / 12 doses.
Last week WBCs were low , doctor told her to take 2 neuopogen shots on thursday and friday . She took chemo dose on saturday . Already neupogen caused her general fatigue and heart was like " pounding of her chest " especially after the 2nd shot , also a sort of diarrhea and headache .
The next day after chemo she had fever reaching 38.5 , dry cough induced especially with smells like perfume , hands itching , still the diarrhea but controlled , some pain or tenderness in axillary lymph nodes on the side of the affected breast that comes and goes and still the headache . She took paracetamol till we contacted the doctor who advised her to take a sort of antibiotic and a stronger analgesic . Her temperature decreases but rises again . She only took antibiotic this morning so still waiting for results . Currently she feels like sweating .
One other thing , last week she had short breath , allergy in both hands and arms , abdominal pain and cramps , bloating 3rd day after chemo .
Anyone with similar experience could tell the possible cause ?

Chemo lyses blood cells. She has to be well hydrated to combat the diarrhea. I did add lime to my water for taste and was able to drink more water. It's likely she has an infection going on with the fever. Because of the low wbc, please ensure that people that come around her are not sick due to risk of infection. Abdominal pain, cramps and bloating were side effects that I faced so I ate tiny portions up to 6X daily and it was like the food stayed in my throat and refused to go down. By week 2, it will get better. I was given some meds for diarrhea whose side effect is constipation, so I had diarrhea alternating with constipation all through. Imodium tablets helped my diarrhea, it's sold over the counter. It's the fatigue that makes the heart pounds even with little exertion like walking. It's because of low blood which means low oxygen circulating and that's where proper hydration comes in, it will dilute the blood and make it appear as if the blood is good volume even though it's less blood cells. Let her drink more please. The sweating is due to cell breakdown which is what chemo is meant to do. When cells are broken down, heat is released and that why she sweats alot. The heat is coming from inside. Mine came like a wave of heat as if a hot oven was opened on my face at intervals. Also, it can be due to chemo-induced menopause if she was premenopausal before diagnosis. Please keep a small fan beside her that she can use as needed and also a blanket because a cooling effect comes after the heat wave.
It is a phase that will pass. All will be well.
