Surgery prep
Hi everyone-
I'm suddenly on the schedule for a bilateral mastectomy on Wednesday. Last minute prepping here. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good adjustable height bedside/ couch side table? I hope this is the place to ask this.
Thanks and hugs to all!

DeeDee - I bought an adjustable table with a leg on one side only so it can swing over the bed at a local medical supply store.

MinusTwo made a good suggestion, however you may not be as incapacitated as you imagine. If you really need the table that’s fine. A bed tray worked fine for me and I already had one, but don’t spend too much money on things that you may only use for a short period of time. Wishing you the best.

I really didn’t need a table. I did keep a box of tissues next to me in the bed. Hoping for a good recovery. Exbrnxgrl makes a very good point. My niece and I both had hard days for the first week. She was able to shop by week 2. I was down about 3 1/2 was but not so much in pain as fatigue. My sister was up making cookies 2 days after surgery. We all had bmx but very different recoveries.

Oh - I didn't buy the table for me. I bought it for my Mothers after her stroke - as she was basically a vegetable in a hospital bed for 12 years after her biggest stroke. Then it was my Dad's until he died at 96.
But the most helpful things were lots of pillows to keep me from turning over since I had been a stomach or side sleeper. The only thing new I got - and dearly love to this day - was a gift from my son of a headset phone. I could lie in bed and talk to people w/o moving my arms.
I was up and moving fairly quickly - even with tissue expanders and two drains. In fact the drugs were so good, my son had to remind me to stop doing some things the first few days.
DeeDee - there's a good thread for surgery prep on BCO. You should be able to find it through the search function, but let us know if you have problems.

Thanks for all the advice. I found a used table thinking it’ll just be easier to have one that swings over the side of the recliner/bed. If I don’t really need it for this surgery at least I’ll have it for the DIEP in a few months
