Iinternal Savi radiation vs full breast radiation

I'm leaning toward traditional full breast radiation because I don't like the idea of yet another incision. I'm wondering if anyone can talk about their Savi experience? Any pros or cons? The oncology nurse I talked to said she actually sees more troubling side effects from the Savi. I also have a good friend who did it and felt it was fairly traumatic for her. I'm just trying to make up my mind as I have surgery in 10 days. Any with this decision would be super appreciated. Thank you!

    A little more info. I am only looking at 3 weeks of external radiation. And my surgeon's office seems to be pushing the Savi so hard that it makes me think the organization must make more money off of Savi. I'm not usually a cynical person but....Thqnk you!

    elizapt, welcome. If you search this site with keyword SAVI you will find mixed results but probably more positive than negative. Probably the most current thread which has bursts of activity is Savi radiation treatment You'll find various stories of the good and not so good. Personally, I had SAVI rads 5 years ago and never looked back. It certainly saved weeks of rads, I had no burned skin, and few effects. A tiny scar that is almost completely faded away. Things may have changed in the 5 years since I had, and I understand fewer women have chosen recently, but I also know some insurance plans may not cover without a specific reason. You might start with whether or not your insurance covers it, read through the thread I linked, and then, if you have any questions, ask away! We're here for you.

    Thanks for checking in. I chose a 3 week course of full breast. The Savi just wasn't for me....Surgery this coming Tuesday then radiation starting 3/23. Ready to get it over with.
