14 Years Post DCIS - Scared

Options

Hi There. I had dcis in 2006 in my right breast that was extensive multi centric and multi focal, and had to have a mastectomy after failing to get clean margins. After my mastectomy, I had radiation on my chest wall, because I was told that due to my margins, it wasn’t an “if” but a “when” it would come back, and my options would be much worse. The RO assured me that it was minimal damage to my lungs, but, only six months after I finished radiation did I need an inhaler for the first time in my life to get rid of a bad cough. I had a CT scan and at that time they told me my lungs were clear. But, I now use a steroid inhaler full time along with my rescue inhaler. I have been short of breath for the past six or so months and I have also been having pain in my right shoulder blade. I have a CT scan scheduled for Monday, but, I am terrified that it is cancer. I thought I would come on here, because it helped me so much in the past. Thanks for reading

Thank you so much, I greatly appreciate that! Yes, I agree, the waiting and unknowing is the worst. I wish I had never had that radiation.

Redspark3, i can totally relate. It has been 14 and a half years since my br ca dx of IDC, grade 2, stage 1, E+, P+. HAD lumpectomy and chemo Ac and rads to whole breast right side. Well I had been having asthma issues so finally went to asthma allergy specialist and they did a standard chest xray . Well there is an area of calcification seen on left side near hilar region where everything comes together in chest . Referred to pulmonologist and she just ordered ct scan of chest. . So afraid. I hope you are doing ok now. Sincerely JCP
