Capsular Contracture

I had a Latissimus Dorsi reconstruction surgery December 2018, and now have capsular contracture most likely due to the radiation.

So now I am back to square one. It was easy when I was first diagnosed to say I will just go flat, but now I am finding this very hard.

My options are..

1- for my PS to go in clean up, replace and hope it doesn't happen again

2- DIEP flap reconstruction

3-go flat

Could anyone share their experiences? I think I'm leaning towards the DIEP, but have heard horror stories.

Thanks

    Hi there.

I had Lat flap as salvage surgery and received a hematoma with cap contracture after exchange surgery.

I waited as per my below 6 months later to clear cap contracture and so far no problems.

No sure why you would jump to Diep, unless you just wanted natural tissue recon?

    Wishing you the best.

My ps is telling me that due to my radiation treatments that my body will most likely continue to do this.

    McToady-

I was not radiated so I can’t speak to it.

Maybe more can weigh in as Lat Flap common with rads.

McToady, it's a very difficult and personal decision. There are also many stories one our boards that you could find by using our Search box to the left. No easy decision, so we hope that others can help guide you.
