Two months ago my mammogram was negative. Since then I found a lump on one breast with a purpleish blotch that looks like a rash on the tip of my areola. The rash has red lines extending from it. My breast also itches llke crazy sometimes more than others. The other breast is fine. Today I found out the lump is benign thank God, but the doctor blew off the rash and said it looked like a "bruise" and that I probably bumped by breast on something "and just forgot". I was so insulted that I immediately went to my attending physician for a SECOP. She confirmed it's a rash and gave me an ointment to use for a few weeks to see if it clears up. I'm worried I may have inflammatory breast cancer. I don't know if I should use the ointment for a month and see what happens or request a test for IBC as soon as possible? Has anyone else received a diagnosis of any kind with similar symptoms? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Since two docs have said it's not cancer, I'd use the ointment. If your still not sure, make an appointment with a derm doc - a skin expert.

I echo the above comment to get into a derm. Use the ointment, and try to find a derm. Tell them you have a red streaky rash, it could speed things along.

I can relate this. A year and a half ago I noticed a cluster of freckles the size of a dime on the left side of my breast. over a year and a half it had spread across the middle of my breast and I have what appears a cluster of small bruises with them. I feel like when I mention IBC to the doctors they are avoiding the topic. Now I have to go in tomorrow because they want a 2nd look at my mammogram because they found uneven breast tissue. I have to get mammagram and an ultrasound. IBC is only determined by a biopsy and doesnt always show up on a mammogram or ultrasound
