DCIS grade 3 and now 2 biopsies scheduled

Options

Today I had a mammogram for several lumps that have developed in the previously affected breast (DCIS grade 3, ER/PR-. 1.5 cm) and now have 2 areas scheduled for biopsy. One along my chest wall for ultrasound biopsy since the "cyst" is not round and instead looks like a rorschach test and another for stereotactic biopsy for newly developed microcalcifications. This is such a effing nightmare I had a double mastectomy to give me the best odds. I'm seething. Just venting.

I had a biopsy today for a lump on my chest - DCIS affected side and I also got a double mastectomy. It's so stressful and feels even worse the second time around, like being shit on. I also have had swollen nodes since my surgery that we are monitoring and they want me to biopsy again. I was shocked to read my ultrasound report claimed my palpable lump was probably a complicated cyst. It was not round either - and felt irregular/bumpy and more of an oval. I don't have the results yet but feel like they will be benign. Before this I had convinced myself it could even be Stage IV into my chest wall... Recurrences can happen despite mastectomy.. but they are rare. Calcifications are worrisome but we also develop calcifications as we age. Hopefully you get some new news and don't have to wait long. I had 3.5 weeks of feeling doomed, it was hell.

Thank you KBee. Since my appt yesterday ran until they closed, they didn't do the ultrasound biopsy. Now I'm told that the soonest they can get me in is in TWO weeks on 2/13. I have had several ultrasound biopsies in the past and it was always done same day. I feel this is completely inhumane making me wait that long with my history and 2 areas of concern in the previously affected breast.

    blah333,

Thank you for note of encouragment. You nailed it when you said it was weeks of "feeling doomed". I'm sorry you had such a long time waiting. It sucks. That does describe exactly how I feel so your note is very much appreciated.

ps0705, 2 weeks is a long long time. I'd be more pissed off than you can possibly imagine.

On the bright side, if they thought this was an emergency they would have fit it in sooner.

ps0705, first thing Monday morning, call and ask for the number of other radiology places locally so you can call and get in sooner. You may magically find they have a date open up when they know you are willing to go somewhere else. My surgery was originally going to be 6 weeks out when I had my recurrence, Once I said I was going to go to where I had my other opinion since they could do it sooner, I got a call back within the hour and got a date teh next week.

    kbee and pajim,

Really appreciate your comments. I called today and ended up leaving a voicemail for the scheduling supervisor about the specifics of my situation and being very clear about the standard of care since 2007 has been same day ultrasound biopsy *found this out online.

Just got a call back and they got me in tomorrow at 1:00. Squeaky wheel worked.

ps0705 - Well, we are in similar situations. I just posted today about the possibility of a 3rd recurrence for me. Here is my post about my story: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/105/topic....

I had an MRI and PET Scan in the past 6 months after my IDC biopsy and nothing showed on them but now this. The waiting is the hardest. Like you, I have to wait almost 2 weeks for my biopsy (2/11) because I am meeting my new oncologist next week and they want her to look at my 3 lumps too before I have the biopsy. I got a call a couple weeks ago that they had to cancel my appt. with my MO because she was no longer seeing patients and may not be seeing patients in the future. So now I'm set up with a new MO. I hear she's great though.

I was told after my BMX that I had a 2% chance of getting it again. Then my IDC was supposed to be slow growing and now another chance I could have a recurrence. There is always a chance you can get it again...and that is frustrating! Especially when you are doing everything you can do to prevent it.

I'm sorry you are going through this, but you are not alone! Wishing you the best tomorrow!

The 2 biopsies were so nerve-wracking.

The one under ultrasound was for a spiculated mass attached to my chest wall. It is 1 cm and they took 4-5 samples. I noticed it was dense and hard to get the needle into it.

The one under sterotactic mammography was for mirco-calcifications (like my original DCIS). After they took 3-4 samples, the Radiologist said she was sure she got it plus more micro-calcifications that were not evident on my mammogram on Weds.

Hopefully it's just my fear reading into these, but I feel more worried than ever after all of this.

mocame - I'm so sorry you have to deal and re-deal with this. I really feel for you. The waiting is so unnerving. How much sleep can we go without?
