Lisa, I like your boat picture.
-
bandwoman we have been watching Lost in Space too. Boy they never get a break do they? Edge of the seat stuff!
More aliens:
-
feelingfeline, LOL!
-
DH took this in our backyard yesterday.
-
Yogatyme, that's a lovely photo!
-
thank you for the hot air balloon photo! Don't see enough of them in Ohio. Did escape to Florida 2x in the last 4 months. Once to a galaxy far far away...most recently to Cape Coral. Manatees off our friends dock first up...
-
Such strange gentle creatures. The closest one had scars on her back ( where we have them on our front) from close encounters with a boat I presume. But like us, she's a survivor!
-
7of9, it's great that you got so close to the manatees and were able to photograph them.
-
love those manatees!!
-
The photo of the birds in flight is amazing. Both birds in focus and all the feathers spread out. Does he do a lot of photography?
I would love to see manatees up close.
-
those birds are neat
-
Feelingfine,
I watched the last episode and have gone back to season 1 and watching it over. I can't wait for season 3!!!! One of our Chicago TV stations devotes Wednesdays to Fungus Wednesday. Your pic would be a great one. Great shot. They do look alien like
Great bird shot freezing the action.
Love the Manatees too!!!

Wren, DH is just starting photography in preparation for retirement. He’s only been at it a few months but has already taken several great photos. He loves wildlife so I look forward to seeing what he might capture at our mountain house.
-
I really have a hard time getting birds in flight, takes me too much time to focus
-
SoCalLisa, I love watching hummers in the garden and you captured this one well!!
-
Lisa,
I attended this weekend photography conference two years ago and it was led by well known professional photographers. This one session the guy told about his elaborate set up to get very cool pics of hummingbirds. It was all automatic with lights set up to flash as a hummers would appear. The photographer was not actually taking the pictures as everything was timed. It was quite an eye opener and a bit disappointing knowing that some of those unbelievable photos you see in magazines and online may not be taken like the rest of us take photos.
Your hummer is a beautiful shot.
-
Lisa, that is such a great hummer photo! Well done.
Nancy, that's very interesting. It's nice to hear from you.
-
Thanks Cathy. I am in physical therapy now so that is taking up a lot of time. I am still getting my swimming in and dealing with alot of legal stuff for my Mom which seems unending but necessary. I haven't taken one nature photo in January which is unusual. I did hear and see a Great Horned Owl last night when taking my garbage out. My neighbor was out and we were looking at it. I wanted to try to get a pic but we were talking and when I looked up again it was gone. Our talking probably disturbed it. I am hoping it will come back. I have no idea if it would have turned out anyway in the dark but I wanted to try. Oh well. Hopefully there will be more opportunities. How are you doing?
-
Nancy, very interesting about flying bird photos. I am struggling with them.
-
Nancy, I hope your physical therapy and the legal stuff for your Mom is going well but I know those things are time-consuming and stressful.
We are organising some renovations so that is also time-consuming and stressful. It is a huge learning curve for us and we're really tired.

Outside the restaurant just now
-
Gorgeous! Love the color!

Lisa, this pro I was talking about was not birds in flight per say but hummingbirds in particular. I have a bird camera that has a 125x zoom. It is REALLY hard to track a bird with it. In fact it is even hard for me to find the moon when I am changing locations for a moon shot. I think with these type of cameras it makes it difficult. My good hummer shots have all been on a tripod where I can freeze the action by a fast shutter speed. Lack of light is usually my issue where I am taking hummer shots so it is probably a different situation. Are you shooting in auto? Can you try using Shutter priority and set your shutter speed so you can freeze the action? I know I have better luck with my DSLR when it comes to getting birds in action but it really hasn't been something I have done very much. I know that the people that are really good at it have lens that are just way too heavy for me to manage without a tripod. That is why I bought this extra bird camera which I really do love but not for tracking birds in flight unfortunately. Your egrets and flower make me want spring to get here even more. Keep em coming!
-
I didn't change the shutter speed, as you can see. Sometimes things just happen too fast
-
I took this this afternoon. At least he was still
-
Oh wow. Amazing shot.
-
What a beauty!!
