Newbie saying hi!
I was diagnosed with DCIS on December 23 - great Christmas present, eh? I've met with the surgeon who I immediately felt comfortable with and was very impressed by. She spent close to two hours with us (my husband and friend who came to take notes) and was as patient as could be with all of our questions.
I'm extremely comfortable with the plan: Lumpectomy with oncoplastic reduction followed by radiation. I couldn't ask for a more caring team - the radiologist went step by step through what would happen. The plastic surgeon was gentle and understanding. The nurse navigator is infinitely patient with questions and scheduling conflicts.
Surgery is February 13.
I'm glad to find this site - I found a similar site when I had my hysterectomy in 2001 and I'm hoping this provides the same support and comfort and answers and from what I've read so far, it will. You all are very warm and welcoming.
Thank you and look forward to getting to know you!

Hi, Flutegirl! Welcome aboard.

Hi Flutegirl...sorry you had to join the club. But I'm glad that you found a surgeon/team that you're comfortable with. Good luck with everything, best wishes.

Hi Flutegirl, I received the DCIS present for the holidays, too. I am glad you have confidence in your medical team, that is really important. There are some excellent resources here and a thread for surgeries and support. I have a great medical team and personal support team. I just met with my surgeon so will be scheduling soon.
Welcome to the club I never thought I would join. Take care of yourself

Flutefirl, here's another welcome for you from a newbie member who never asked for this holiday gift either, but got it anyway! lol
I also have DCIS and am also scheduled for a lumpectomy and oncoplastic reconstruction. I just received my surgery date which is Feb 26. I will be following it up with radiation and endocrine therapy. I really like my breast surgeon and plastic surgeon who have worked as a team for quite some time. Everything is falling into place, finally. It feels good to know what my plan is. As ReeaRite said, this isn't exactly the place any of us expected or wanted to be, but this is a nice place for meeting others and supporting each other. There's a treasure trove of information here, and members who share their experiences and respond to questions which I've found invaluable. I'm so relieved to have found this site and these forums.
Best wishes.

Flutegirl- checking in on how you are doing. I had my lumpectomy today, it was easy but we will see how much pain arrives tomorrow. Take care

Flutegirl, so sorry you’re finding yourself in this club but you have to to the best place for information, research and SUPPORT. There are so many knowledgeable people here and everyone has been where you are. Hoping for the very best for you.

I had my surgery on February 13 as scheduled and all went well. I spent one night in the hospital and was home by 11 the next morning. I received a call from my doctor on the 20th (never a good sign when the doctor calls and not the nurse!) that the pathology report showed some cancer cells were found in a neighboring duct so I'll be going in again this week for another slice - inferior slice she refers to it - and she will be taking a node or two this time as well. I also developed a seroma in both breasts so that's been itchy and painful and uncomfortable to deal with. I love my doctor - she took calls from me yesterday describing the problem and today to give an update and then she scheduled me to go in tomorrow to see her. She was kind and gracious about being "bothered" (my word, not her's!) on the weekend and I thanked her profusely. She said she would rather hear from patients than not. All in all I still feel as good about everything as I can - a minor setback in the big scheme of things.
Thanks everyone for the kind words. I ReeaRite - I hope your procedure went well, and StriveforHealth - good luck on yours this week!
