Waiting time for surgery

I was newly diagnosed with IDC stage 2 on 1/10/2020.

Estrogen +50%

Progesterone +23%

HER2 Negative (FISH)

Ki-67 Antigen: 25%

Pending BRCA result ( result will come out next week)

Doctor said I am going to lose my nipple. I am a bit worried because I won't be able to see the plastic surgeon for consult until 2/4/2020. I begin to worry that the cancer will spread before my surgery. How long does it take to get into surgery in your case?

    Hi cutiekate,

    Welcome. It sucks waiting. Let's see I was diagnosed around March 26th and had my surgery May 10. I of course freaked out, and since I was having oncoplastic surgery I said "forget it. I don't need the plastics let's just get this done." Both doctors were very clear that there was no danger in waiting in my case. I liked and trusted them both from the get go, so that made me feel a lot better about it. I think it varies since cancers are all so different. But generally speaking, a few weeks seems to not alarm the meds.

    It doesn't grow that quickly, Katie. Waiting is excruciating, but waiting that length of time won't endanger you. You'll be okay!

    I had chemotherapy before surgery but it was a little over a month between the imaging that lead to my diagnosis, and the start of treatment.

    It was 7 weeks between the end of chemotherapy and my surgery. That's a little longer than average but it worked out because I would not have been sufficiently recovered from the chemotherapy if it had been scheduled sooner.

    It was still a nerve wracking wait though. Never have I been so happy to get up at 4:30am and have major (for me) surgery.
