I did Five Parks yoga for runners, which always kicks my butt. Hoping the air quality is improved enough to be able to run outside tomorrow.
-
A quick check-in because I will be busy the rest of the day. This morning, I went to Pound & will go to Yoga Nidra in a few minutes. I have some errands to get this done & will check on the puppies but probably not go for a walk (the air temperature is five below but with the windchill is -27!). I'll do a 30 minute Barre Sculpt at 5:00 and then off to Book Club where I will regain any calories I might have lost.
-
Definitely need help in that department too.
-
Did 25 minutes of a walking video with Leslie Sansone today then (as Ruth did) ate back the calories at book club! 🍷🍰
-
I actually got to walk several times yesterday. Felt some energy return, not much, took a nap after. Felt good to get some real exercise. One day at a time. Beautiful weather here in south west Florida. Broke all kinds of records. I'm careful in sun, lots of sunscreen being that I'm only 2 weeks out from last chemo. Have a great day everyone. Still not much taste, I hope that returns soon. Hate not being able to taste foods and such.
-
No running still here in Manila, the air quality is improving but still not great. Since I have reactive airway disease, I'm not going to chance it. I did HIIT and abs instead.
-
Claire, Leavenworth look European indeed.
edj, hope you get out safely soon. It will be a crush at the airport, which is true even under normal circumstances. They sorely need a new airport. One is being planned much further away from Taal than the current airport.
Doing a no-sugar challenge and it's going well, except that I seem to be moving less. Hmmm. Off to the gym to fix that problem.
-
good morning!
Had my reconstruction on the right yesterday and perked up the left
zero pain -- feel good but proactively taking Tylenol just in case
The goal is to walk when I get home from work -- just very easy peasy and then graduate to the bike trainer.
They closed me up with "glue" so I'm good to shower and sweat but ramp up slowly . . .
Both arms have great range of motion and my right side where I had the expander I have better movement backwards (running form).
-
So glad to hear you're doing well, iwaveatcows!!
-
Yea, iwave!
Bitterly cold here with about 5 more inches of snow. Argh!!!! The smart WWW members have gone south for the winter!
-
that is one awesome photo! Nice group!
-
Afternoon! Ran 5 miles last night with group and have a 4 mile tempo run on the schedule for today. Like Ruth we received a few inches of snow overnight so it's best to do my speed work at the track right now. The roads are still so snowpacked and icy from the blizzard 2_wks ago. It's pretty treacherous out there still. Hard to run fast right now. My pace is a good minute slower right now due to the cold temps and bad paths. Oh well it still beats the dreadmill!
Iwaveatcows...wonderful! Prayers for a good recovery! Will you have any more surgeries? 8 Bostons...so awesome!!
Edj3...hope the air continues to improve! A friend's daughter is supposed to fly in to Manila tomorrow. She is very concerned. Is the airport open yet?
Caire..simply beautiful!
Heidi...that's my next goal I need to work on. My sugar intake rose again during the holidays!
Happy Wednesday! Wishing everyone wonderful workouts!!

Some planes are making it in. The problem with NAIA is they have just one long runway for the long haul flights so only one plane at a time can go in or out. And they need to get the planes that were stuck here out. She should definitely check w/ her airline.
She can also check this site which lists departures. She can filter by airline and date/time.
-
She will be going there for a humanitarian misson. So they will only fly in if safe but friend is very concerned for their safety and the health issues too.
And you stay safe also edj3! 💓

Ruth: I want Luna! So cute! Nice picture of WWW.
Claire: Wow! Glad you made it home safely. I love the picture of Leavenworth.
TT: So sorry about Joyce. Prayers have been lifted for her and all of you.
iwaveatcows: Smart move staying on top of any pain. Glad to hear your surgery went well.
edj3: Hope the airport is fully functioning when it's time for you to return home. My son was in the Manila in December and the air quality wasn't good then (and that was without an erupting volcano).
Hi Everyone! I've been walking/running regularly since the last time I posted with an exception of a few rainy days. This past Saturday was Girl Scout Cookie Delivery Day for our Council. I have helped distribute cookies to troops in our Service Unit for years. It's outside and takes several hours plus it's always freezing (well, not like Ruth and Runner). But this year it was in the upper 50s and lower 60s. I didn't even declare that this is my last year doing this like I have every other year because of the cold. Couldn't help but think about global warming, though.
If you see Girl Scouts selling cookies be sure to treat yourself to at least one box.
-
Wonder - I was cookie mom for both my daughters - I think 10 - 12 years total!!! I like how they sell now, door to door with the cookies instead of taking orders and having to go back!! Last year I ordered several boxes for my kids and the neighbor I ordered from never brought them over so I bought at a booth sale - I was worried that I wouldn't get them as cookie sales were almost over. I felt bad, but she lives right around the corner and she emailed me for my order. This year I'll only buy if someone comes to my door or at the grocery store. I haven't eaten girl scout cookies in a few years, so now I only buy if my kids want and hang onto them till they visit or I go see them!!! When my kids were still home (all 3) we would buy 2 cases (assorted cookies) and they would last the year. My kids loved having Thin Mints when everyone else was long gone!!
I've had this cold since Saturday and its not getting any better - Been coughing like crazy and now my nose is getting more stuffy/congested. It is wearing me out - been going to bed early. DH and I still need to get a walk in tonight - hope I'm up to it.
Last night I told our son that his dad and I were turning into wimps in the cold...he chuckled and said soon we would be like my late father complaining the house was cold with thermostat set at 80!!!

I was wondering if anyone knows about the new exercise guidelines for breast cancer, released in October 2019. My question is, if you comply with the new guidelines are you still reducing your risk for recurrence ? Is it increased if you follow the old guidelines or equally covered with the new guidelines? Thanks!!
-
Just found out I have Shingles... ugh. Out of school until at least Tuesday. No exercise.I guess my body is forcing me to take a break.
-
Oh no, Ginger!
-
Oh Ginger, that's awful! I've heard shingles are incredibly painful--hoping for a quick recovery for you.
-
Good morning!
I was able to ride the bike trainer this morning for 45 minutes!!!
No pain . . . was great to take a shower
Going to meet with the nutritionist at MD Anderson today to see what she has to say.
Chef Hubby is coming too
-
Ruth - LOL about winter parking! We are lost without the painted lines. And I absolutely love the puppy pictures!
IWave - so great about your recovery and continued progress. Please share what the nutritionist has to say. I always have my ears open so that I can pick up tips along the way.
Ginger - oh gosh, sorry to hear about the shingles. Maybe it was caught early and won't be so bad?
Edj3 - hope you get home without delay.
Wonderland - I love the Cookie Monster cartoon. So cute!
Runnermum - wow, running on snow and ice. I'm sure you are used to it, but that does impress me. When I lived in a northern climate, I always tippy toed across snow and ice covered walkways and I probably held my breath and was so tense.
Krose53 - https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/10/191016131226.htm here is the link regarding new exercise guidelines that I think you are referring to.. The way I read it, they have lowered the amount of exercise needed for cancer survivors? That really surprises me. However, I read somewhere else (either Dr. Greger or Dr. Colin Campbell) that we need 90 minutes a day so I try to either meet or exceed that goal. I have always had the idea that if a little bit is good, more is better. So Krose53, maybe all we need is 90 minutes a week - maybe the key is that it is spread over multiple days so not too much time goes by without doing something. I am going to keep doing what I have been doing and try to improve in areas such as yoga. I just read that yoga strengthens your immune system which ties in with what IWave said.
So this morning, I did a little bit of weights, and I will go for a walk at lunch and hope to run outside in the neighborhood after work. And maybe if I say I will do a little yoga tonight, I actually will.
-
24 below this morning, Winter Storm Warning for the weekend.
I went to Zumba this morning & will go back to Dance2fit & Yoga tonight. Years & years & years ago, I heard Richard Simmons say that everyone needs at least 4 hours of aerobic exercise 4 hours of strength/toning/stretching work a week. So, that is the minimum in my mind.
-
Regarding recommended exercise guidelines - I want to add that everyone should do the best they can. The amount and the method are going to vary from person to person, and ultimately one should be happy with their effort and take comfort knowing they do their best most days.
Ruth, I need to work on mixing it up more - adding more time to strength and toning.
-
Adding on to GoKale's advice, exercise does not have to be intense to 'count'. If you are just getting started, or recovering from surgery, or having a rough time with any given treatment; whatever you can do will work in your favor in the long term. After surgery, taking a slow walk around the block (or even living room) was' aerobic' to me, and gentle stretching etc. was 'toning'. You are always better off to start slow and build up. And not everyone wants to be at the same level of fitness anyway; which is perfectly fine, the only person who needs to be happy with your routine is you!
-
Off on our RV trip. First night spent in snowy Pennsylvania, then a few days with my kids and families in the DC area. Currently in Charleston SC, and have had 3 days of incredibly long walks, 2 on the beach, and today in the city. The weather has been unusually warm here (70's), but that is changing tonight, high tomorrow around 50 - still, I'll take it. Still need to work in my rehab exercises and some general toning into my routine, but generally feeling a lot better.
-
Ginger, I’m so sorry to hear about the shingles. Hope you recover quickly and it isn’t too painful.
-
Ginger - sorry about the shingles.
I've has this cold since Saturday night and it is kicking my behind!!! Seems to be getting worse - today a few people asked me if I was sick!!! I haven't had anything like this in some time. Sure hope my DH doesn't get it. At least I walked before work and after work (with DH). Will see if I'm up to one in a little bit.
I generally don't work Fridays, but I'm working on a case that I inherited (testing) and we have a pre-meeting tomorrow. I'll get a couple hours comp time.
I think I need chicken soup. I generally only make soup when its really cold or if its a meal by itself, but Going to make a small pot of chicken soup with lots of veggies for tomorrow night.
-
Feel better Karen. There's a lot going around. My husband just finished a round of antibiotics.
Yesterday I did a walk at hime video on YouTube again. Winter storm will be coming in and temps are dropping so I am startimg to appreciate YouTube.
