8 weeks still tired
Hello I had a double mastectomy with Diep reconstruction Nov 11. Surgery was 14 hours and was in hospital for 5 days. I was off work for 6 weeks and the past two weeks have worked at home. I am experiencing still being really tired and get winded easier if walking in mall, etc. I also feel like things are in slow motion sometimes and I am trying to catch up. I went to surgeon today and he said I am healing great. Told him about being so tired and not driving yet and he said I should be back to normal by now as it has been 8 weeks I am overall a strong person that doesn’t complain, but that made me mad. I am not making it up that I am tired. He suggested seeing my primary doctor for bloodwork which I had not that long ago and was fine. Anyone else tired and brain a little foggy? I also did not have chemo or radiation due to low onca score, so it’s not that. Thanks in advance

If your surgeon recommended seeing your primary doctor, he was not being dismissive. Your tiredness is not something a surgeon deals with, so seeing your primary is the best advice he could have given you.

Jolsonrose, you don’t say what your age is, but I am 68 and had BMX w no reconstruction in Aug and I had significant fatigue for about 8-10 weeks. Once I started exercising again I started being less tired and my thinking was clearer. Another thing to consider: my PCP told me that estrogen also affects our thyroid. I have been treated for hypothyroidism for many years and almost immediately after BMX, we had to adjust my medication. One of the primary sx of hypothyroidism is fatigue. It might be worth asking your PCP for a thyroid panel.

I'm 57 had a umx no reconstruction sn on Jan 6th. That's almost 4 weeks ago. It went well and healing great but I just woke up from a 3 hour "nap" unplanned. So point is we are all different and handle this differently. Don't rule out anything. Listen to your body and give yourself time to heal physically and mentally and emotionally. It is all connected. If you feel like something isn't quite right you should go for a primary care visit.
Take good care of yourself!
