How do you know if "something" is there??

Options

Had a double BMX without reconstruction two years ago and felt a thickening lump along the cancer side and freaked out.. Went ASAP to the oncologist and he said I was feeling my ribs. I had been exercising so I could have a muscle strain. But what would "something" feel like? How can you tell a recurrence from a tendon or rib - all I felt was a thick lump. I can't call the dr. everytime I feel a weird lump on my chest but have no idea how to tell if its serious. Thanks for holding my hand through this - in panic mode today.

I have had several lumps post cancer. The reality is that you cannot tell for sure. Most of mine felt rubbery but firm, and those have all been scar tissue. I have a prominent rib which sometimes freaks out MO, but I remind him it is just my prominent rib. I had one lump which felt different from all of these and felt identical to my initial lump...like a pebble. BS and PS were sure it was scar tissue but my gut said otherwise so I asked for a biopsy and was diagnosed with a recurrence. So...follow your gut, but NEVER ignore a new lump. My MO said he'd rather see me every month for a new lump that for me to ever ignore one.
