Concerned that I have Metastasis breast cancer

I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer in 2007 when I was just 26 years old .I have been in remission since completing my treatments in 2008. But on December 15, 2019, I woke up to bad back pain. And I have been having back ever since. I have never had back pain in my life until now, so this really concerns me that the cancer has returned in my bones. The pain is in the middle of mylower back, and I am having some soreness on my left side. The cancer was in my right breast. I have contacted my doctor and she wants me to wait a few weeks to see if the pain gets any better before she has me sent out to have any tests. But the pain is not getting any better at all and I strongly feel that I have metastatic breast cancer. Do you think this could be the case? After taking pain pills, the pain usually goes away.

    AngelNicole,

    I am sorry that your back pain has caused you worry but it’s understandable. There is simply no way for you or any of us to guess if this could be a metastatic event or not. Waiting does stink, but unless you can convine your doctor to bump up tests such as imaging, waiting is all you can do. In the interest of lowering your stress level, I would definitely try to be seen sooner. What doctor are you seeing, i.e. oncologist, gp , etc.

    Some folks have pain and/or physical symptoms when mets develop, some don’t. I have bone mets and never had a single symptom so you can see how nothing short of imaging and perhaps a biopsy will give you a definitive answer. Do give the doctor a call and see if they can squeeze you in sooner. All the best.

    TNBC never recurs so late. It is likely back pain.

    I had the same pain (was triple positive in 2008), but ultimately they ruled out Mets and I started yoga and got much much better. My doctor always said most benign things will get better with pain medication or within two weeks - after that he will consider imaging to investigate. Hope you can get some answers and relief soon

    @KorynH It's been 2 weeks now and the pain is not getting any better. I'm really scared. I'm too scared to have imaging test done, honestly. Too afraid of what the test are going to reveal.

    Keep a daily log of your pain, and if it has been over 2 weeks, let your doctor know that it is not improving, or see someone such as an orthopedic. Thankfully most lower back pain is NOT mets, but ultimately you need to know what is causing it and how to address it. Keep us posted.
