I went for my routine mammogram on 12/9 and they wanted more images. I went and had those done on 12/18. They recommend a biopsy. Heres what the report said

on the magnification views the clustered of microcalcifications is punctuate, amorphous and group in the left upper outer quadrant

an amorphous group of microcalifcations in the left upper outer breast. these are either new or more prominent than the prior. stereotactic guided biopsy is recommended

BI-RADS 4 suspicious finding

my family dr had been following this and said I need a gyn for other issues. My gyn sent me to her place for the biopsy and I went for that on 12/26. They did the ultrasound and another mammogram and said I don't need a biopsy that all I have is an oil cyst. I was so happy to hear I didn't need the biopsy I didn't ask questions. I'm confused as why 2 different radiologists came up with such different results. Also, the imaging place my family dr sent me to called to schedule a biopsy. Should I go have it done even though I went to the one my gyn sent me to? I'm still worried. I've been having other gyn issues and lost over 20 lbs with no explanation.

No wonder you are confused! You might want to talk about this with the OB/GYN that ordered the US & Mammogram. You could also discuss this w the other imaging center and/or your PCP. It is unsettling that you’ve had that much of a weight loss without trying. I hope ultimately all you have are cysts! Fingers crossed.

Oil cysts can have calcification in their walls that looks like an egg shell. Like any mass, when the calcification is first forming it is sometimes difficult on a mammo to tell what kind of calcs they are especially if the mass itself is not seen on the mammo. We would then check out the area with ultrasound. If a mass is seen and it can be correlated with the mammo finding in size and location that would help answer the question. I assume the one who recommended the biopsy did not do an ultrasound?

Talk to the radiologist who said you don't need the biopsy and have them explain to you exactly how they came to that conclusion and how confident they are. Speak with your other docs about the unintentional weight loss. Even if these calcs were the malignant type, without a mass and evidence of spread outside the breast, this is not the cause of your weight loss.

Not wanting to scare you, but I was also losing weight faster than I could take credit for. Once the breast cancer was found, I thought that explained it, but surgical pre-testing showed kidney cancer. I haven't asked, but maybe there has to be some disease (not necessarily cancer) of an internal organ to affect weight?
