I just had my follow up mammogram. The report gave me a BIRAD of 4. I have an irregular mass that is somewhat spiculated. I also have a lump under my arm on the same side. I am 58. I had a hysterectomy at 23 and took HRT until age 55. Breast cancer runs in my family. My maternal grandmother, a maternal aunt and my sister all had breast cancer. I have been getting mammograms since age 33 but.skipped the last 4 years due to insurance issues. This is the first time anything has shown up. I am about 30 lbs overweight with very dense tissue in my breasts. I also still smoke and have had two benign lesions removed from the outside of my breasts over 15 years ago. I am stressing out over this. Any suggestions how much my risk factors increase the odds of this being cancer?

Hi BeachGypsy. It's true that HRT and smoking increase cancer risk, but I don't think anyone can make a truly educated guess except a doctor. Do you have your mammogram report? If you post it in DJMammo's thread ("Interpreting Your Report") he may be able to give you some insight. But in any event I'm so sorry you have the stress of waiting for a diagnosis.
