I got my root canal done 10 years ago on my right side. I got breast cancer on the right side. I am not sure if there is any relevance.

If any one has any similar experience please post. There was a movie related to that.

There is ZERO science connecting the two. That Netflix thing is BS and pseudoscience

    I did a little homework. :)

There is obviously a connection between the state of a person's dental health and it having an impact (of varying degrees) on the health of the overall body, that stands to reason, but any type of specific link to breast cancer and root canals is just not out there as far as I can tell.

Information to share with patients concerned about the safety of root canal treatment

    https://www.aae.org/specialty/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2017/06/rootcanalsafetytalkingpoints.pdf

"There is no valid, scientific evidence linking root canal-treated teeth and disease elsewhere in the body. Data showing that "97 percent of cancer patients had root canal treatment" has not been published anywhere. There is no causality between root canals and cancer; just because a person has experienced both doesn't mean a cause-and-effect relationship exists."

Root Cause" on Netflix: Can Root Canals Make You Sick?

    https://dentistrytoday.com/news/todays-dental-news/item/4347-root-cause-on-netflix-can-root-canals-make-you-sick

"However, it should be stressed that what is not mentioned in this Netfilx program is that this case dates back about 100 years. Yes. 100 years. So it's natural to ask what in the world we really knew about science and medicine a century ago."

Have 97 Percent of Terminal Cancer Victims Undergone Root Canals?

Claims about definitive links between terminal cancer and root canal procedures are unsupported by credible medical evidence.

    https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/root-canal-cancer/

"The "97 percent" figure commonly cited in the root canal cancer link claim is typically attributed to Dr. Josef Issels, a German physician who allegedly reported that "in his 40 years of treating 'terminal' cancer patients, 97 percent of his cancer patients had root canals." Of course, it's quite likely that 97 percent of Dr. Issels' cancer patients had also consumed marshmallows at some point, but in the absence of any documented causative factor, that statement demonstrates nothing more than a spurious correlation. And Dr. Issels was a promoter of alternative cancer therapy regimens who was charged with manslaughter in 1961 after three cancer patients died while under his care.

In fact, the AAE noted that research published in 2013 concluded that individuals who underwent multiple endodontic treatments actually experienced a 45 percent reducedrisk of cancer."

I have heard that poor dental health can affect heart health but not any connection to any kind of cancer. It would seem if there is a connection it would be w the oral cancers.

Well, that had me howling with laughter. Uh-oh. I know I've laughed many times in my life. Does that mean there's a link between laughing and cancer?

Alice - better you than me.

Poor mouth hygiene can lead to all kinds of inflammation, including heart involvement. I just can't believe that a root canal (done under sterile conditions by an experienced dentist or periodontist or endodontist) causes cancer. However - I am going in for my 6 month cleaning in the morning and I'll ask them.

I would think even though poor dental health is correlated with poor overall health, it wouldn't make sense for a right sided root canal to cause right sided cancer. Even it causes cancer...it's not like something from the root canal would drift down only on the right side...physiologically that doesn't make sense. If it leaked something into the body (not saying it does), it would probably systemically travel throughout the entire body.

My dentist was rolling on the floor laughing. The hygienist said there had been something on Netflix that was totally bogus and they had been required to remove it.

General dental health is important to prevent many problems, but this a non-starter.

Well, I've heard this before, however not at all convinced.

The thing is I had a root canal on the left side and got breast cancer on the left side BUT

We also have a family history of breast cancer - both my mum's sister had it and my dad's sister had it.

So is it the root canal that caused it, or the family history? I'll have a bet it's the family history!

I broke my left arm as a kid and my LCIS is on the left side. Coincidence? Hahahaha

We’re not talking about poor dental health in general but root canals specifically. Zero science based evidence exists as far as I know. Here are some more headlines:

100% of people who developed breast cancer drank water at some point in their lives

The majority of people who developed breast cancer went to elementary school.

I don’t mean to sound snarky but correlation does not equal causation.
