Hello. I am 53 and was diagnosed end of Sept with stage 1 ductal carcinoma amd in other breast stage 2 lobular carcinoma. Both are estrogen and progesterone positive. I had double mastectomy with reconstruction. Did not get into my lymph nodes. My one breast Oncotype score came back 15, and chemo is not recommended. How accurate is the test? Glad I don’t need chemo but just making sure it is the right decision. Don’t want to go through any cancer scare again. Thank you

It’s pretty accurate according to my oncologist. I had the test too and got a score of 11 so I dodged chemo too. It’s not foolproof of course but having a low score is certainly a positive thing.
Good luck with the rest of your treatments.

Keep the faith. I was 8 years out last August.

I believe to my understanding the Oncotype scoring is fairly accurate, especially for those that are menopausal. I had a Mammaprint done to corroborate the results since I am younger, high risk, and was at the brink between chemo being my choice due to my score. My MO told me due to my young age, comorbities, premenopausal state that my recurrence rate would be between 28-35% without endocrine therapy. With therapy my risk was 11-14%.

It's a very personal decision and no one answer will be right for everyone. I wish you peace with the decision that you feel is best for you.

Here is an Oncotype thread that may be helpful to you:

What the 15 score is telling you is that based on the genetic make-up of your cancer, 1) your metastatic recurrence risk is quite low; and 2) adding chemotherapy won't provide any additional survival benefit versus endocrine therapy alone and might in fact do more harm than good.

The score is not saying is that you will not have a distant recurrence. Your risk is low, but once we've had invasive cancer, we all face some degree of risk - and this remains true even if you have chemo. For some people, chemo is able to reduce the risk (but not eliminate it completely) whereas what your Oncotype score is telling you is that your risk is already low (assuming you take endocrine therapy) and chemo will not be able to reduce it further.

    Hope that makes sense,
