Silicone forms weight comparisons
I've been looking, online mostly, at many different types of breast forms. A lot of the forms are listed as being lighter and vary from 10 or 12% lighter to as much as 60% lighter. Trouble is, I can never locate the actual weights. Does anyone know if there is a chart somewhere that shows actual weight comparisons?
Since my bilateral in July, I've been wearing Amoena 126's, which do tend to move around some, so I thought it might be time to go for something with a little more weight. The moving around might be because I hate regular bras and tend to go for more comfort with camisole type bras.
My fitter who is also a bilateral just tried Amoena Tresia Personally Contact forms and absolutely loves them. But just holding these forms in my hand, they seem so heavy! I can't seem to find any weight listed on the box, but weighing them on a dial bathroom scale, I would estimate them to be about 1/2 pound each. I do seem to like the idea of a contact form and would appreciate help and suggestions on this weight issue.
Another issue is my really large dog ears, so I'd also appreciate tips on what contact forms might work with this. Seems to me that the lightest possible forms would pull less on the extra tissue?

If no one has information or knows the actual weight of contact breast forms, I would very much appreciate knowing your favorites and which ones seem to be the lightest?

Sher, this is an important question you've asked. I hope someone will see it and give you an answer.
Even though I keep reading that the reason why we need to spend $$$ on a "weighted" prosthesis is to restore body symmetry & balance, I can't seem to find much about the kind of weight we're talking about.
I even argued (gently) with a prosthesis fitter that, with my small breast size (I ended up with a size 2 Amoena Natura Light), it was kind of silly to think my posture was crooked when I wasn't wearing a "real" breast form. She cluck-clucked at me and said I was mistaken--it was sooo important.

Personally, when you're an A or smaller, the weight thing is BS, in my ever so humble opinion. I mean, if it's less then a pound, I sincerely doubt it can throw you off that much. I think they just want you to buy the more expensive form. Now, if you're a C or larger, I could see that it might make a difference. I have a lighter weight form, and when I get on my digital scale with and without it, there's no difference in the weight that's registering. I wear a size 4 Airway Softlite. This is the form the fitter found for me. I think if the form weighs less then a pound, it's not really going to make a big difference in your posture.

Curiosity got the best of me so I emailed nearlyou.com about their contact forms and these are the weights I was given per form - size 40B.
521 Amoena Contact 13.11 ounces
351 Classic Contact 17 ounces
653 Amoena Tresia Personally 12.9 ounces
368 Amoena Tria Contact Light 13 ounces
476 Truelife Silk Connect 1 3/4 pounds

Today I received my first prosthesis, I had a single mastectomy 4 weeks ago. I am concerned about the weight of the form. I can not find information about the weight of the forms. I have a small frame but full C cup size. My shoulders and back have chronic pain and the weight of the form is discouraging. I would appreciate any feed back.

Lilkirch - this thread has not been active since 2008, but I hope you get an answer. If not, why not contact the manufacturer directly?

Lilkirch, do you know the name of the form you have? Most brands have light or extra light ones and it sounds like that would be good for you. I haven't come across any information about the exact weight of each form either. The type of bra forms are put in is also very important. A number of women prefer foam forms rather than silicone because they're lighter. I hope you find just the right thing for you.
