Small breasts prior to DMX...can I still stay an A cup?
I had a DMX in Feb 19. Recovery went very well. I didn't want reconstruction at the time but am reconsidering it now. I was barely an A prior and would like to stay that way. I'd like enough to hold up a strapless top, not much more. I'm super active as well. I run 50+ miles a week, play ice hockey, swim, bike etc...
Has anyone else had reconstruction for a small cup size and if so, what type of reconstruction did you have?

I was/am also small busted. I was a runner/jumper in college and always very thin. Much to everyone (including my PS) I did not want to increase my bust size. Smaller just looks normal on me. I have mentor gel implants 235cc I believe. I think they look great. I had a skin/nipple sparing double mastectomy My left breast looks almost exactly like my natural breast except the nipple points slightly to the side. My right Side was radiated after surgery/immediate reconstruction so it is a little tighter looking. Overall I am very pleased that I stayed the same size. They look very good and don't really impede any activities I do.

Thanks so much for the reply!

I am tall, thin and also had tiny breasts. I went slightly bigger, but not too much. I had implants. Mine are beneath the pec muscle, but they're sometimes put over top now. I am a firefighter/paramedic and was able to return to work 6 weeks after surgery with no restrictions. I've also run several half marathons since then. So...as long as there are no complications, you should be able to get reconstruction that works for you. I was very clear with my surgeon about my activity level, and I think it is important to share that.

I did not have reconstruction but my niece did. She was also small breasted and went w small implants, despite her PS encouraging her to consider a bit larger. She stuck by her guns and has no regrets. She is also very active....runner, Tai Kwan Do, hiker, regular gym attendance, etc

I am likely going to do a double mastectomy very shortly (early January), and while I am confident in the decision, I want to be aware of the realities I'm going to be facing. I'm also slight, and small chested. I will probably go bigger than I am now, just to get a slightly more filled out shirts. I'm a bit concerned right now about the loss of sensation. I will also have a nipple sparing mastectomy, but my research seems to vary wildly regarding what to expect sensation wise afterwards. What was your experience?

I still have considerable sensation with my mastectomy. I'm hoping to maintain it when I have reconstruction.

Yogatyme, That is good to hear that she stuck by her guns! I'm going to do the same!

Kaylakoala, Sadly, don't have much sensation in my breasts. I had prepec implants put in at the same time as my BMX. While my nipples look normal they are not very responsive but I can tell if someone touches them or if my bra is uncomfortable.Other women seem to have more sensation though. Hopefully you will be one of them.

I remember that a BCO member had her expanders removed and was happy having no implants. She had just the autologous fat transfer which meant she was small but not flat.

I was just about an A also. Went straight to implants and have a 240cc. Probably a little more than I had but still does not fill a B cup. I had a double nipple sparing mastectomy 2 years ago. I have gotten some sensation back in my nipples.

I was small--36 A or B- (haha) and for the same reasons (yoga instructor doing lots of yoga, running, hiking etc.) I loved my small boobs and wanted to keep them. My surgeon told me I wanted to stay "sporty", which made me laugh.
Because I was small and wanted to stay small, I had a BMX and immediate recon using silicone implants with no TEs, etc--just one surgery did it. Implants under the pec muscles. My overall recovery time was 3 weeks and I had little to no pain. I just had to sleep on a wedge pillow for that time, and although I am a back sleeper most of the time, it was hard to do it all of the time. But I managed.
The year later I had some fat grafting done because my radiated breast was a bit off compared to the un-radiated breast. That was also an easy surgery-outpatient.
I'm probably more of a B- than regular A now, but I think if you have small boobs and want to stay that small, the surgery can be done in a 1 and done thing.
I'm happy with them.; they look normal, and the scars aren't too noticeable. But I don't care about my scars anyway-to me, they are survival scars. It's weird, though I can move them independently because of the under the pec surgery.
Hope that helps! PM me if you have questions. Oh yeah, I had nipple sparing, but no sensation has returned. I miss that, but I don't miss worrying about scans since I had 5 clear mammos that didn't reveal that I had cancer.
