Fingers and Toes Crossed...
Went for my yearly mammo a few days ago, fully expecting to hear, "Everything looks good, see ya next year!". The radiologist saw something in my left breast that wasn't there last year. So, more images. Then an ultrasound. He said there is a 9mm star-shaped solid mass and wants to do a biopsy as soon as possible. Said it looked "ominous" and there was a very high chance of malignancy.
So, this morning I had a vacuum-assisted stereotactic biopsy while smooshed in the 3D mammogram machine. The numbing shots weren't bad and I barely felt the big needle go in. During the first two biopsies, I just felt a pulling/tugging sensation. But the 3rd biopsy was horrible. The pain was so bad, I almost blacked out (cold sweat, cloudy vision, nausea, shaking, tears streaming down my face). He gave me another numbing shot and took a 4th biopsy and it was just as bad. Given the choice, I would rather give birth again than get another biopsy like that one. And my son was 11 lbs, 11 oz!
The radiologist and the two techs were so nice but I felt like a big old baby, lol. But it's over and now we just have to wait for the results. Fortunately, he said we should hear something in the next 48 hours (Friday afternoon). If not, then Monday. Trying to stay busy, pray and keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

I'm sorry you had a rough time and the waiting is just awful. I hope you hear good news soon. I am sending thoughts, prayers and all good things your way.
-
Try to do something fun while you wait! I went to a concert featuring my favorite band the night after my biopsy; it really took my mind off the anxiety.
-
Thank you for your sweet reply, NewGrandma48. I really appreciate it
AliceBastable, that sounded like so much fun!
-
Yes, finally someone that did not have a breezy biopsy. Don't get me wrong, I feel your pain! I was starting to wonder if I was the only one that thought it was a horrible experience. It's been surreal waiting for the results. I'm guessing I will know in the next couple of days. Fingers and toes crossed with you!

dysonsphere, me, too! I heard that if you need lots of novocain at the dentist, your biopsy might be really painful because the anesthetic they use is in the same family as novocain. When I was a kid and needed to get cavities filled, they had to numb my whole head. So maybe there's something to that, lol
I hope you get good news!

I didn't hear back today so I guess I will have to be keeping myself busy all weekend!
-
dysonshpere, I'm sorry! Waiting is sooooo hard! I didn't get results either. I guess there was a FedEx delay and the lab didn't get my specimen until today. But the rad tech said it is still viable and I won't need to have another biopsy. That's a good thing because I am not doing that again! So I should hear something by Tuesday.
-
Still no results yet. Trying really hard not to read too much into it. Do you think "no news is good news" applies here, lol
-
i don’t really know but i understand your anxiety and fear. So i wanted to pop on here and say that you aren’t alone. I would guess if the specimen was late getting there, perhaps testing was backlogged too. Try hard not to read in to it. Please post a follow up when you find out!
-
I'm sorry you are still waiting. Even though I didn't get good news, it's much better to just know instead of wondering. I have to wait again for 3 weeks to just get to breast surgeon consultation. So I'm starting to realize one of the things I'm not good at -- being patient-- is going to be something I will have to work on. I truly hope that you get good news!
-
Thank you, Fissie. That's a good point.
Dysonsphere, how are you? I know you've had a really crappy day. I think I have a problem with patience, too.
-
Totally with you. You are in my thoughts. Keep positive and do share your test results.I hope everything is fine and good. I understand how shitty biopsies are, hope you never have to go through again.
Good luck and god bless.
-
Godisone, thank you so much for the kind words! Will do.
-
I am back at work today. Just keeping my life normal until I get a plan of action from the cancer center. Have you heard anything about when you can expect your results?!
-
dysonsphere, the rad tech just told me yesterday, "we'll call you when we get your pathology report". I asked her if the lab called with a preliminary diagnoses if the final report was delayed. Just got a "nope". I'm sooooo tired of waiting for the phone to ring. Just want to know, one way or the other.
-
My primary doctor's nurse just called and wants me and my husband to come in to his office tomorrow at 10:30am to get my results. The radiologist who did my biopsy told me after that he always calls the patients with results. The nurse said that the radiologist and my doctor think "it will be better for my doctor to talk to me". Uff. That doesn't sound good.

Whatever it is, you can handle it! Keep us posted!

Dysonsphere and AliceBastable, thank you so much for the support!

Well, it's official. I have cancer. But I'm so glad my primary doctor is the one who gave us the news. He took a lot of time going over my pathology report with us and explaining what the next steps will be. He put in an authorization for the breast surgeon and her office should be calling early next week to set up the lumpectomy. I really hope to get it done before the end of the year. (Ya know, because we've already met our deductible, and all, lol)
The good news is that they caught it early and it is ER+/PR+, HER2-. It sounds weird to say this out loud, but it's kind of a relief to finally know, one way or another. Cancer sucks the big one but I have a wonderfully supportive family and lots of new friends in these forums. I'm gonna be fine
-
I hope you can get it done before the end of the year too! Hear you on the deductibles and all that--plus there's something symbolic about having the nasty stuff gone before the start of the new year.
-
Definitely aim for this year for a fresh start next year, although you may have pesky post-surgical treatments to come.
-
So sorry we got the same news this week. Hugs!
-
edj3, me too! That's exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for your support!
AliceBastable, yup, I want to get the rest of that free-loader out of my boob. I know chemo and rads might be in my future but I'm crossing my fingers that it might not be necessary.
dysonsphere, I've been thinking about you, hoping you're doing ok.
