edited December 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

the Radiologist that read my ultrasound gave me a Birad5 and ordered a biopsy. The Radiologist that did the needle biopsy without being asked volunteered that he thought it looked like a papilloma which are not cancerous but could be pre cancerous and they are usually removed. I’m so confused and paralyzed with fear. I’m 70 and have very dense breasts. I’ve had regular mammograms since I was 55 and been recalled twice for ultrasounds, but on the other breast. Because I had my biopsy 2 days before thanks giving I won’t get the results until Tuesday or Wed. It’s an extra long wait

It's hard waiting. I watched a lot of Netflix and at some point got a few Ativan from my doctor, but that was after diagnosis. Believe me, no matter what the results, you will be able to handle it and have a good chance of doing well. Nowadays docs use tests like the Oncotype to determine risk and whether chemo is helpful, and many people avoid chemo now who used to get it. Good luck with the wait. Almost Monday!

My doctor called me last night with my biopsy results. He said I’m sorry to tell you that you have cancer. It’s very small. They’ll want to do a lumpectomy and I’ll call you in the morning and tell you when your appt. will be with the breast surgeon. This morning the facility called that did the biopsy. The lady said you don’t have cancer. You have 2 small spots that are have atypical cells. We want to do a lumpectomy, etc. What kind of a doctor tells his patient she has cancer without reading the biopsy report. I feel so angry. It’s just inexcusable. I will be looking for a new primary care physician.

Keeping you in my prayers till you get the lumpectomy results. Whatever it turns out to be, you will be fine and we are all here for you.

What on earth?!?! That's insane. I had to replace my primary care doctor this year (she hadn't opened emails from my surgeons or oncologists and didn't even know what was going on!) and it was a real pain. I think you need to ask for the results to be read by another radiologist AND a tumor board to get a definitive result. And report your primary care doctor if it's true that the results are benign.

I got a copy of the finalreport. It says in 2 different places atypical cells, no definite evidence of malignancy.
