    Hi, Milmil.

I had lots of positive nodes after chemo, and lots of lymphovascular invasion on my pathology report too, and I am in the worst category for residual disease after neoadjuvant chemo. That was August 2015 and now it's April 2019, and I am absolutely fine. It is quite possible that your mother's disease and mine will recur--we just never know. However, my case shows that it's very possible to be fine several years after that grim news. I wish you and your mother the best. She's lucky to have a wonderful daughter like you!

Hi milmil, my tumor was attached to skin(like your mum) and chest wall at the diagnosis. My MO told me the tumor was locally advanced. After chemo, the tumor felt smaller but still firmly attached to the chest wall. Anyway my post surgery pathology report was a total mess to me: no clear margins, extensive lymphovascular invasions, more than 5cm in size and was staged as IIIB,…. I went on to have more chemo after surgery. My doctors never talked about prognosis to me and I never asked either. But my MO said cancer is tricky and my surgeon said BC is in particular very sneaky. I found in this forum that many members have lived many years after diagnosis of BC with stage III and lymphovascular invasions, quite a few didn't achieve clear margins after surgery. All the best to your mum and your family.

Hi milmil. I had inoperable, locally advanced, ILC. Even after neoadjuvant chemo I still had extensive lymph invasion. I did chemo before surgery, more chemo after surgery, had radiation and have been taking Femara for over 14 years now. I hit my 15 year cancer free mark last month.

Your mom is not a statistic! Every person responds differently to treatment.

Surgery is part of the process and so is chemotherapy. My oncologist was of the opinion that shrinking a lymph node cancer first was just one approach. The final grade really can't be known until surgery, so going from grade 2 to 3 happens frequently. I'm glad you're thinking of her.

Just saw your message....How is your Mom doing?

I know this is very scary, but perhaps my status will ease your worry. In 2008, I was diagnosed with Stage 3C breast cancer: IDC + IMPC ("metastatic lymph node cancer") + a bit of DCIS. The cancer was in my blood stream. I had 24 out of 24 nodes cancerous. Yep, 3 kinds of BC. First surgery, no clear margins so I had a second surgery. By all accounts, at the time of my initial treatment I was told I would probably only make it for another 2 years. Yet, here I am.

I am hoping your Mom is doing OK. I care.

LOVE - as everyone has posted, your Mom can be fine for many years. I had a 2nd round of chemo after surgery - and then radiation.

If you are not pleased with what the oncologist is telling you, you should get a second opinion.

my mom is also suffering from stage IIIB ER+/PR- Her2+ breast cancer, and is currently undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy, AC + T (Taxotere). She just had her 4th cycle. Doctor told her to finish all 6 cycles before the surgery. Please help me pray for clear margins and cancer no more after 6 cycles

With HER2+ cancer, it's pretty standard to do chemo before surgery. And then she will likely be on Herceptin for a year. Be prepared for the docs to recommend radiation after surgery to mop up any rogue cells. Hope all goes well.

6 cycles of TCHP - infusions every three weeks. Surgery. Then because the tumor didn't have a complete response, 4 cycles of AC - infusions every 3 weeks. Radiation - 25 sessions. Herceptin for the rest of the year.

I believe in moderation. I have always believed in moderation. That means meat, alcohol, exercise, sweets, etc. I try not to overdo anything but I don't cut out anything.
