Pre-Op Testing

What, if any, pre-op testing did those of you who did a double mastectomy do?

I am scheduled for a double mastectomy no reconstruction Dec. 18 and neither the surgeon or oncologist even listened to my heart.

I did have an echocardiogram and routine bloodwork. The echo was because we were thinking of chemo before surgery but that changed.

I just think pre-op should be more than a conversation?

Before each of my 4 surgeries I had a brief physical, 2 with EKG, 2 without, and basic blood work done. Cannot be further out than 30 days before your surgery. Guessing some people with pre existing conditions may need more pre op testing or surveillance.

I just had a surgery.

1 EKG and blood work with 30 days, PCP provided medical clearance.

In additional to the labs and EKG I also had to do an MRI of just my breasts (face down in little "cups") because I had very dense tissues. They wanted better views than mamo was able to give them.

Before surgery - CT with contrast and w/o. MRI. Pet/CT. My MO felt like it was important to give the surgeon the best view before she went in.

After surgery - the same battery because I didn't have pCR. A year later, PET/CT only.
