Second Biopsy on previous benign Fibroadenoma

Hi all,

So I was diagnosed with an FA 7 years ago and biopsy came back and FA as well. I have had yearly and sometimes 6 month check ups over the last 7 years. I went for a 6 month follow up for another spot and this has grown 1cm in that last 7 months. Just had second biopsy today and Dr. mentioned Phyllodes Tumor. What are the odds of this being wrong the first time? Anyone else experience anything like that? TIA

    You say that the 6 month follow-up was for "another spot". So is this the same fibroadenoma as was biopsied 7 years ago? Or is a new a new/different mass?

    What type of biopsy did you have 7 years ago? A core needle biopsy, or a fine needle aspiration? A core needle biopsy is more reliable but sometimes FNAs are done on fibroadenomas, particularly for very young patients (fibroadenomas are the most common lumps in teenage girls and those in their early 20s).

    The follow up was for a new mass found on my left side in April 2019 and diagnosed as an FA. The 6 month follow up I just had was for the FA on the left side but since I have 2 FA's on my right we always check that side as well.

    The biopsy I had today was a core needle biopsy on the same FA I had a core needle biopsy on 7 years ago , done by a breast specialist. the Dr. today stated that it doesn't look like a typical FA because it is microlobulated. This is confusing to me because it has been tracked and imaged for 7 years and followed up with by Breast Surgeon as well. I hope that is a better explanation.

    I am going through a similar situation. I have a Fibroadenoma that they have been watching for over 3 years. This mammo it doubled in size. I had a core biopsy last Wednesday and got the results this morning. Possible phyllodes tumor. My surgeon, Radiologist and pathologist are having a conference on Monday, I’ll know more about course of treatment after that. Mine is now lobular, irregular and has angular margins which is why the biopsy was done. Previously it was circumscribed with clear margins
