Memory restore from chemo brain
For those who are having issues related to chemo brain, II ust wanted to share my experience to get back to memory. I took Fish Oil in my daily supplement at least 500 mg per day and I felt better to regain memory. If you had chemo, I would suggest this. Make sure it is Mercury free when you buy.

Hi Cutie -- I've been taking fish oil supplements, as well, but today I found several articles saying fish oil reduces effectiveness of chemotherapy and should be avoided. I just finished my last round of Taxol and was taking fish oil every single day. Have you spoken with your oncologist about it? I raised my concern with my oncologist and he just told me to "stop reading stuff online."
That said, I do think the fish oil helps improve my thinking abilities - I can complete the NYT Friday crossword with a pen! Just wish I'd thought to talk to my doctor about supplements *before* I started taking them. *sigh*

My oncologist said Fish Oil was useful. Don't stop taking it.

I didn't take it during the chemo treatment. But after that, I felt losing memory and took it. When I had viral meningitis and after that I lost memory too. I took fish Oil and regained memory. I felt it works for me.
But during chemo, it shouldn't be taken. But try to eat healthy food. I posted a link which foods should be taken and avoid during chemo in separate post. It helped too. I had pathology complete response. Don't know if it was it. But we should get full chemo benefits to remove cancer cells.

Thanks, Minus Two, and Cutie - I'll try to find the post you mentioned about diet. Aside from whether or not it interacts with chemo, fish oil does seem to help with brain function. My son was having difficulty concentrating on schoolwork and his doctor told us to give him daily fish oil supplements (which surprised us - we were sure he was going to prescribe ADD meds). He's doing a bit better now and his grades did improve.

- Thanks Cutie for starting this topic and for the suggestion. It seems to me that chemo brain damage is not discussed as much as other side effects. But for me it has been the most disruptive. Thanks also, vogonna, MinusTwo .

Cutie - interesting you didn't take fish oil during chemo. I was told to go ahead all the way through. I only had to stop a week prior to surgery due to the blood thinning properties.

It was one of medication list that I didn't have to take during chemo. I think because of blood thinking effects as chemo has it too
