edited November 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

Hey Ladies,

I had an mri with contrast on Thursday and now i'm playing the waiting game. Anyone know how long it takes to get results? The technicians who did the MRI couldnt tell me anything. They did let me see one select screen. It showed my right side lit up , my nipple and ducts i guess where all brighr but the left where the problems are was dark except for 2 dots towards underarm. The tech did say the dots were probably blood vessels, which sounds wierd. When i commented about how the right one was bright but that.it wasnt the one giving me issues he said "that doesnt matter". Not sure what to think. Any ideas? Anyone else have any experience with this?

Thanks

I know with my MRI, I had all sorts of light and dark things show up. It did seem shocking to see how active it looked, but it came back with no suspicion. The dots that were likely blood vessels probably looked strange because of the angle of the x-ray. The results should be available within 1 or 2 days, so you may have them back tomorrow. Were you diagnosed over 4 years ago, or is that just when you joined? Do you get yearly MRI's? Do you worry after every test or did you find something suspicious lately?

i had microcalcifiactions removed almoat 4 years ago. They were focal hyperplasia or something like that. Than in july 2018 i had a mass removed off my chest wall that had both fibroadenoma and phyllodes characteristics. Im now swelling up to and above my collar bone and outside of my breast. My areola changed shapes, my husband thinks from swelling. I swell so much it causes my upper arm to swell like it retaining fluid and it can be painful at times. Hopefully MRI givea some kknd of answers.

the swelling in your arm that feels like it is fluid filled sounds suspiciously like lymphedema. Have you had any issues with it in the past?

Boyd - have you been to a trained lymphadema doc? Is it possible it's breast & truncal LE?

Take a look at this site that was created with much input from BCO members.

I'm sure the MRI will be helpful. They are supposed to be more helpful at determining what is going on compared to an ultrasound or a mammogram. Fortunately you will know soon. I'll watch for your update! :) Lori

ive never had this before and the mass i had removed was no where near the axillary lymph nodes. I did have swelling in collarbone area not this bad or above.it when.they found the mass attached to.my chest wall last.time. it went away when they removed it.

Ive got other issies gping on that are probably.not.related. Im havimg bad.memory issues, sometimes i dont recognize my husband ir get disorianted in a public place. I had issues finding my mom at an event i had to ask a stramger eho had just seen her to.point.hwr out and shes a 6 ft tall red head. I also watch same shows over and over becaus ei cant remember them. My poor husband my forgetfulness is hard on him.

    Boyd,

Just a suggestion -- your imaging center should provide you with a report. If your doc isn't meeting with you that soon, you can go and get the written report to see it. Additionally, if you might want a second opinion on the scan, your imaging center should provide you with a disk with your test on it so that you can have that too.

    Good luck.

they took little blood before doing the MRI to check kidney function, well they put the results on patient portal. It shows low creatinine, I don't think it has anything to do with my breast issues. Has anyone else had this?

Boyd - the contract medium for a breast MRI can be harmful to the kidneys - so yes they always check kidney function before proceeding.
