How Long Do You See The RO Once Treatment Is Over

I’m wondering how long one is expected to see the radiation oncologist once treatment is finished. I decided to stop seeing my RO after seeing him yearly since I had radiation four years ago. I’m interested in your input and experiences. Thank you!!

April - I didn’t see mine at all after treatment. I stopped seeing my MO after 5 years. She discharged me from her care. I’m 8 years out as of last August. Everyone is different though.

My RO discharged me from his care 3 months after rads were completed. I am only 1 year out from surgery, so I still see my SO and MO.

I believe I’ll see my RO annually for five years, although she’s the one who orders my mammos. I have my first six-month follow-up with my MO next week. I assume I’ll see her as long as I’m on the AI. I cut my BS loose—really no need to see her unless something else pops up.

At my last radiation session, I was told to call if I had any problems, but otherwise, I wouldn't see the radiologist again. The BS orders my annual mammogram and I see her the same day. I see my MO every three months, and she said if all is well at the two-year mark, it will go to every four months. The MO also schedules my CT scans, but those might not be standard for low stage and grade breast cancer - I think they're more because I also had kidney cancer last year.

I'm recently done with treatment (lumpectomy, chemo, and rads.) I had a 3-month follow-up with MO, and he and I had a friendly "break-up" and agreed not to see each other any more. I'll see the RO in a couple of weeks and doubt I need to see her again. Seeing the BS a week after that. In truth, I'm not sure who is supposed to order my follow-up mammograms and any other scans. I guess it would be the BS or the PCP. ?? Still all new to me. Really though, I'd rather not have appointments if I don't need them.

Both times I had a follow up appt with RO, then done. Same with BS. Last time I saw BS I told him he was a nice guy, but I didn’t want to EVER see him again

Now stage iv, so will be with MO for life. Between PCP and MO, they order any tests, scans, etc they feel I need.

I saw my radiologist 6 weeks after rads were completed, then I wouldn't again unless I have problems. I had problems during radiation that he didn't address so not sure why I would now, a year and a half later. I also don't see my breast surgeon again after lumpectomy. I am supposed to see my oncologist every 4 months. I am spacing those out further and further already (five months, then six months...).

Saw her a month after rads ended, she examined me, answered my questions, then I got my survivorship plan and she went over it with me. She set up my mammogram and U/S for next August. I won't need to see her again. I only saw the surgeon twice after lumpectomy. I do see the MO evey 6 months, I am 15 months out from D day.
