Today my constipation bowel movement was so bad I think I might be forming an anal prolapse.my anal fissure was bleeding and my poor bum doesn't feel right. :( .I cannot get the poop out I had to push so hard...I just want to cry. This morning before that poop problem I noticed I had some prune juice about 8 oz so I drank it. About and hour after that poop problem then I went diarrhea???? I am hoping that means the prune juice did that...I am hearing now that the Zoladex can constipate you. I just got that shot a week ago (for the first and Last time) and now I have surgery Monday and I have to be put under and I am not going to be able to poop they told me to take miralax everyday up until the surgery which I have been doing.

I drink like 60 oz of water a day I have very little dairy I take 400mg magnesium citrate a night, I take a cap full of miralax every morning... Colace and senna do not work.

someone mentioned glycerine suppositories...I will buy them but I don't know that they make the stool soft...i think they just make you go...I need both. I am also going to up my magnesium since someone told me they take 1000mg a day I take 400mg I will go to 600mg or even 800mg at this point. I am going to buy prunes and prune juice...I know....its loaded with sugar..but I just am at my wits end I need it to see if it will help I am so afraid of it fueling my cancer but I need something to help :(

Nicole: You really should reach out to your doc again. You can so serious damage pushing that hard. In the mean time, below is the link to a BCO thread that has some interesting and wonderful recipes that have worked for many members. Good luck with the surgery. Of course the pain meds make constipation worse.

Nicole, on another thread I was told about Dr. Schulze's Intestinal Formula #1; you can find it on Amazon. I have always had a problem with constipation, and chemotherapy just made it worse. I thought I had tried everything, but this is truly my miracle product. Causes no cramping, but absolutely works. I think it didn't work the first day I took it, but it did the second day. I got up from the toilet and was just amazed at how much poop was in me!

It's not something you would take every day all the time, but when you need it, it works.

BAMR...I actually saw that on Amazon the other day...I was nervous to get it..because it has a lot of different supplement ingredients...but I think I will order it...so it's only for when you HAVENT gone to the bathroom right like if I skip a day of going..take it? Its not a stool softener right?

Right. Only take it when you really need it. I used it for a couple of days and haven't needed it again. The Miralax and magnesium are working for me now. Not a stool softener, but you definitely won't have a problem with hard stools.

I agree with Minustwo that something worse than constipation could be developing. When a bowel obstruction is present, the stool can become like diarrhea as it goes around the blockage.

As far as the usual advice I gave when I worked as a pharmacist, you have done it - fluid intake, magnesium which acts as a laxative, etc. Exercise and adequate dietary fiber are two other points I used to emphasize for long term treatment but it sounds like you need immediate help. An enema is a possibility

I think you should phone the doctor on call and explain the situation, especially with a surgical procedure pending. You might ask about increasing the Miralax to twice a day. Don't worry about sugar fueling the cancer. That is a myth. While it is good to eat healthy, you have bigger issues of concern right now!

vlnrph.... I sent my MO a message in the portal. But she will not see it before my surgery monday at 530am..I do not think I have an obstruction because wouldn't that show in a CT scan of the abdomen? I just had 2 done in the last 2 weeks...also I did go...but I know the ZOLADEX made me constipated ...it was only after that big hard bowel movement passed today then about 1/2 hour later I had a little diarrhea...but I think that may have been the 8oz of prune juice I had.

While on Chemo, and at the start of my time on Ibrance, I suffered from horrible constipation. It took about 6 months to get it under control. I tried almost every over the counter option I could but what ended up working for me was good old dried prunes and D'anjou pears. Started out eating 4-6 dried prunes every day and then scaled back to 2-3 per day once the bowel movements leveled out. Pears help with the occasional constipation I have now. These options were cheap and easy and worked for me. I hope you find some reprieve soon. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery.

Thank you KC....I took some advice already from people...some have suggested to take 2 prunes put them in a glass of water leave it over night and eat them and drink that water first thing in the morning..they are soaking now. I just went to the bathroom again..it was extremely loose..almost like diarrhea...so I am thinking and hoping that maybe the miralax has kicked in. I also just bought the glycerine suppositories and Milk of Magnesia.

I take 250 mg magnesium tablet every day (in addition to the 50 mg that's in my multiple vitamin). I started it for leg cramps but the regular bowel movements have been wonderful. Once when the leg & toe cramps got particularly bad, the doc said I could double that. Hmmmm - pretty much mush every day so I dropped back to one pill.

Oh Nicole, you poor thing. Glad to see you went. I also was going to suggest a fleet enema. What about cleanse with the sea salt?

Nicole, this is my problem too. I was in the hospital recently and oh my there was trouble. At one point I hadn't 'gone' for 11 days.

They gave the suppositories in order to get what was in there out. [bed pan no less. It was awful] It sounds like you did that. Then they gave me senna, colace and miralax. It felt like overkill and took four days to work but then my stools got very soft.

Of course once I got home I reverted, but I have restarted the hospital regimen hoping it will right the ship.

About those prunes, I have found that heating them in a pan over low heat in orange juice until they soft from absorbing the juice makes them more pleasant to eat (and I think they work better and fewer were needed). You can prepare them ahead and refrigerate them. This may not help much with serious constipation but can help to keep the constipation under control once you get relief. I was told it is a good idea to try to find what worked for me and stay ahead of becoming constipated but that was difficult when the chemo made my system alternate between diarrhea and constipation.

    Hi,

For the past few months I’ve been constipated on and off with diarrhea in between.About two weeks ago, the constipation wasso bad that I had to extract the poop. (Sorry for the graphic description). I’ve tried miralax dulcolax colace suppositories and now trying milk of magnesia. I didn’t go all last week. Now hemmoroids are bleeding alittle. I’m afraid to hear what the dr will say, but I guess I have to call. Help!!!! Ilene

Ok...so here is what I am doing and it's helping...First...take the miralax 2 times a day until you go...believe me you will go...and drink 4oz of warm prune juice... Then throughout the day eat like 4 prunes.

The miralax will make you go. Give it a couple of days. Plan D would be to drink half the bottle of milk of magnesia. It'll give you awful stomach cramps and then clean you out. Plan E is if plan D doesn't work to drink the other half of the bottle. The one time I had to resort to Plan D it worked. But it wasn't any fun at all. Miralax is easier.

Hi constipation got so bad had to go to er. Was vomiting and couldn’t keep anything down. They put a nasogastric tube in my nose to my stomach, Drs said my stomach was 10 times the size it should be. Suchioned out like 8 liters of stuff. Then told I had a duodenum and Bile duct obstuction from a mass on them. They did stents to open all up. Biopsies from endoscope showed no cancer but my onc wants another radiologist to confirm. Find out tomorrow. wish me luck . Ilene
