Sternum pain

Options

I am almost two weeks out from my Dx mastectomy and I am having a lot of sternum pain. It is tender to the touch and aches constantly. I see the surgeon on Thursday and will be bringing it up, but was curious if anyone else had experienced the same thing.

Thank you.

Kelley, I, too, had sternum pain post BMX (8/13/19) as well as rib pain in area where drains were. Both are better but not completely resolved. It seems to come and go, probably secondary to activity and nerves “waking up”. I don’t think it’s anything worrisome but I would certainly ask the doc about it.

Thank you. I figured that it is pretty common, but boy is it annoying.

I have the same thing. Sore and it’s so tender to the touch. I’m 3 weeks post DIEP.

Same here. 10 days post bmx. Sternum pain with periodic strong pains. My entire chest from armpit to armpit is so tight and uncomfortable. Really tender around ribs where the drains are. Thankfully, my drainage has gone down a lot so they'll be taken out next week. Armpits are the worst though. The pain runs down my arm too. I am so over this!

I had the same thing! I thought they wrapped me up too tightly, and the bandage caved in my skin around the bones!

We had to unwrap me before my first post op visit and that gave me some immediate relief.

I am seven week out now and the pain is almost gone. I have to press pretty hard to make it hurt.

I'm a year out, and somewhere along the line my sternum pain went away. I still have some cording and other minor pains, but my sternum pain is gone.

Weirdly enough, I think bench pressing is what eliminated the last of it.
