Accuracy for abdominal U/S for liver mets

Options

From what I understand, an U/S is the first line for looking into possible liver mets. What is the accuracy in detection? I have a dr appt tomorrow.

My liver mets were not definitively identified until I had an abdominal MRI. Then they showed up clearly.

I think the ultrasound tells them whether to do further imaging. They could see something they know is benign (such as cysts), or they could see something that prompts them to order further imaging—MRI, CT with Contrast, or PET-CT. My 2014 ultrasound report said mets “must be considered”, so I had a PET-CT as well as blood tests to follow up.

I am guessing it would depend on how big the mets are. Hoping you get answers...benign ones!
