Hello,

I had my BMX with immediate diep flap in December 2018. So far so good no problems until this weekend, I started having a sharp pain above my belly button. It comes and goes. Feels like a stabbing or pulling. I went to my primary doctor this morning and she thinks it's gastro-pain and prescribed medication for GERD. I don't think that is what it is. I think its a hernia or something related to the diep flap surgery. Has anyone else experienced this? And when do you call your oncologist vs primary physician?

I had shooting pains occasionally and figured it was the nerves regenerating since the whole area was numb for the first couple of years after surgery. I am now waiting for a CATscan to see if I have a hernia. The hernia pain is different than the nerve pain.

Thank you for your response. I have had the nerve regenerating pains. To me they feel like shocks. This is more like a stab or tearing feeling. I think its a hernia or muscle related.

Good Luck with your CAT scan.

Thank you. I found out today that it is scheduled for Friday afternoon with a follow up appt. on Tuesday. Anxious to get it over with. My “hernia” pain feels like an internal pinching pain, but it is sporadic.

Update: no hernia. Surgeon said probably scar tissue from DIEP flap. He offered a steroid shot or physical therapy. I chose the latter.
